CCI "Swamp People" 36 gr 22LR
Is there something wrong with this ammo? The local Cabela's has shelves (yes that is plural as in more than one) loaded with 300 round boxes of the stuff. Priced at $27.99 a box. With the lack of .22 of late, why is this still on the shelf??

Nope. Nothing wrong with it at all. It's CCI Mini Mag HPs.

By now people have to be tired of buying every 22lr they see. It's only been 4 years, by now anyone who care about 22lr has to have had their fill?!?!?!?!

Well at almost $0.10 per round it's not cheap so that might be one of the reasons.

That's what I was thinking. Dime a round for 22s - even for mini-mags - is awful steep.

I walked away from some .22lr the other day at 7¢ per round. No way I'd pay 10¢ ea.
I've got enough .22 ammo on hand that I can afford to be a little selective.

I was able to find the Swamp people 300 rd pack a few months ago at Academy Sports..$24.99....The kicker was I had a $10 off coupon..New store opening..
I stopped by a range and gun shop yesterday, they had CCI 22 LR for $8.99 per 100 rds...I declined...

Federal auto match 325 round boxes are showing up at Walmart for 18.95. Cabelas is overpriced on all their goods.

Yaeh, I walked away, too much for my wallet. It was rather amusing to hear an employee "complaining" about how much they have and the difficulty of finding room for it!

I bought a box of the fed auto match..I didn't care for it at all, or rather my Walther P22 didn't care for it..It worked OK on my Ruger MKII...I'll pass if it is offered again....

+1 on the Fed AutoMatch. This inexpensive ammo used to be good but lately has been on the "iffy" on the quality control end. In the past, I've had to send a lot of it back to Federal because of "bloopers". The factory told me they were having a lot of problems with their crimping equipment; and that led to erratic ignition. The treated me right with the return though; got my $+ back after I shipped back to them on their dime.
As far as I see, 9-10cents a round it still the normal price for .22LR in my local. Still not much of anything else on the shelves, so I don't mind using Mini-mags at that price. At least I'm confident of the ammo quality.

That's about what I paid on line for some MiniMags, including shipping. I don't have to like it but it's not as bad as it could be.

Hate to say it gents, but the days of 3 cents /round .22 lr are likely to be revisited only in stories to your grand kids. (Including walking up hill, both ways in a snow storm to fetch it! ).
As for those "Chute-um!" Mini-Mags, I had both a sig mosquito and a walther P22 that would accept nothing but cci minimags. ( Sig even states it on the box) Given how expensive and elusive that ammo has been, those guns went in trade (towards something I don't quite recall.) when my supply of mini mags dried up.
p.s. Interesting discussion on the Fed Auto Match. I had a bulk carton a year back that was pure junk. Had fail to fires in every mag. I swore off it until when a friend brought some out to the range just recently. It ran flawlessly in everything I own and continues to do so about 600 rounds/two box's latter. Like all bulk "milk carton" ammo, it's not fair to expect match quality consistency but it has been reliable at knocking rams over at 100 yds.

Those 300 round boxes are part of their specials going into Black Friday. Probably won't see it again for a while once its gone.

Maybe, but Cabela's frequently has discount codes, i.e, $20 off $100 purchase. And you can frequently buy Cabela's $50 gift cards for $40. If I buy a $21.99 box of Auto Match with a 20% off code and a 20% off gift card it's $14.08 effective cost. Get that from Walmart. And I can buy ammo at Cabela's without having to get someone paged over to the ammo case with a key and waiting to see if they ever show up. You can't get that kind of deal every day, but I get enough that C's supplies me with most of my ammo, and I shoot around 1500 rds of .22 a month.

Other posters are correct. This stuff is just CCI MiniMags in a different package. We can debate the price, but if you didn't stock up before the panic I suppose you will pay for what you need/want.

3 or 4 months ago Cabela's would allow you to buy two 50 round boxes of 22 ammo. 100 round limit and they only had two different loading's on the shelf. I bought two boxes.
If you can now buy more now , I will be amazed to see it. Stock up now because after the next election the hoarding will start anew. I predict another Clinton era.

The new .05 per round for .22 L/R

In our town of 100K .10 per round would draw a crowd. While it is not a great deal it is available which has some value in itself. If you go online to gunbot you can see the price of all online sellers for .22 L/R. I have never seen more than 5% that are offering .22 L/R at .05 per round and if so are typically sold out. I'm afraid the new standard for .22 is closer to .10 than .05 per round and typically if you do find it on the cheap it is lead tipped Remington Thunderbolts. Just my opinion and experience for our region and what I am able to find online.

It varies from store to store, but they raised it to 1200 rds at the one by me. There's been several times lately when I could have bought 1200, but I never did.

I bought a couple of those 300 round boxes of CCI mini mags on Friday, and shot a box of them on Saturday. Not one problem with a single round. Mini mags are great little rounds.
My wife and I made a great score on Thursday night though. We went to Dick's and they had the 525 boxes of Federal Champion 36 grain JHP. Limit two boxes per person. So my wife and I bought 2 boxes each. We then hit up the other 3 Dick's in our area and bought 4 more boxes at each one. Then, on our way back home, we stopped back into the original Dick's we started in, and they still had a bunch on the rack, so we bought four more boxes.
All in all, we went home with 20 boxes (10,500 rounds)...and spent 5.14 cents per round out the door.
My wife and I buy 22lr whenever we find a good deal. She actually works with other women whom are new to firearms, and she always starts them off with a 22 pistol, and then works them up to larger calibers like .38 spl, 9mm, 40, etc. So, we can actually go through quite a bit of 22lr through the course of a year. She's had to curtail it for the past couple of years with as hard as it's been to replenish the stock though. So this score should help her get back at it.

I don't thinks that there's anything wrong with it. But I do feel like that my Remington 597 does better with 40gr. bullets. So I always look for those and don't pay too much attention to the 36gr. ones...

Are you referring to the availability or my rifle performance?
Either way, I like the RWS high velocity HP (40gr.) and I even bought me some Eley Force with a 42gr. LRN bullet just to try 'em out

The question was about CCI ammo, I was just noting the difference between the 36 and 40 gr rds..

My wife wanted to make another round through the rest of the Dick's for more boxes, but we had already amassed enough stock...and I kind of wanted to save some for other people. I would feel more guilty about "hoarding" that many rounds of 22lr in a night, except we actually shoot ours and use it for helping women get comfortable with shooting.

It is the same as any other CCI minimag but is loose packaged. Shoots great and is very clean burning. It is a super squirrel anesthetic.

Hey power of the dollar my friend. I'm not looking down at you for it, if I was in a better economical situation I probably would have purchased more too.

I still have a whole bunch of those 375rd boxes from back before all the stupid started. Ive never had any problems from them.
.22lr down here is plentiful. Its been sitting on the shelves for 8 or so months now. There always comes a time when people stop spending crazy money for things. Take those Magpul PMags for example.
