Default .22 Magnum Ammo

I have checked most internet sites and most gun stores in Hillsborough county and cannot find a single round of 22 mag. My Henry Golden Boy, S&W scandium.22 mag and Pug all rest quitely in the safe. Is this a national problem or just the Tampa area?

You're looking in the wrong places. Try luckygunner.com or ammoman.com. They both have it, but be prepared for some sticker shock. The good stuff is hard to find.

When I acquired this MDL 48 some years back I would pick up a box or two every where I went when on my 'photo' rides. The stock added up, then I picked up a case when at a gun show. I now have all I need, or will. I don't even bother looking for 22's in any flavor any more. Should I run across any 'HYPER Velocity' stuff, I would pick up a couple boxes just because my conversion like it a tad better than the high velocity stuff, the rest I will leave for someone else. I just don't see any around here either.

Winchester and Hornady have both been impossible to find all year. The old WRF stuff is great when you can find it. It turns a 22 magnum into a regular 22 that you can shoot in the back yard.

I guess that maybe I am lucky....When there is no 22lr to be found, they always seem to have 22mag at Bass Pro and WM. I bought 6 boxes of CCI mag last trip to Bass Pro.

.22 WMR is hard to find around here. A new Gander Mountain opened in St. Louis County recently, and I stopped by the weekend after Thanksgiving. They had two different loads, and it was flying off the shelf. It's non-existent down in the Bootheel, except for the occasional box or two at gun shows, and then it's pretty dear.

I've not seen any for sale here in over two years.
Here's proof it did once exist.

About a month ago, I emailed Winchester to ask if they had any future plans of making some of this, but still haven't gotten a response.

Its one of the ammo's theat requires persistence and patience!
Use the search engines such as gunbot.com, ammoseek etc. and you'll find it. As noted in an eaerlier post - don't expect to get an especially good price on it.

It's very scarce at retail stores around here. I've managed to accumulate a few hundred rounds at 13-15 bucks for 50.

I've downloaded 22-250 to 22 WMR power levels as a last resort. Strange but true it's much cheaper to shoot the centerfire.

Some people are hard to figure. This ammo shortage is caused largely by hoarding and wanton waste IMHO. We have experienced the shortage here as well. A gun guy was in the LGS the other day to get the brick of 22 lr that had been on backorder for 6 months. He stated he had been without a single round of 22's for nearly a year. I saw him a week later and he was trying to find more. I asked him about the 500 rounds he had gotten the week before. He said he had them shot up the same day he got them. As fun as it is to shoot, I retired my 22 Magnum when I had but 400 rounds left. Twenty two magnum ammo seldom is on a shelf but can be ordered and received usually within a few months. I have bowed out of buying the last 2 boxes I saw on a shelf as I have enough for my needs at the present time. I gifted a man a box after he promised not to shoot dirt clods with them and use them for hunting and defense only.

Better luck browsing smaller gun shops. Usually like CCI 40 grain stuff but many times places like Bass Pro have limited selection if any. Darn good round for varmints at woods ranges. Usually paying $15 a box or slightly more around my area.

MY CZ 452FS/mannlicher in .22mag is my favorite "walking in Penn's Woods" rifle........but it's a hunting round not "an afternoon shooting at the range" round......

learning that the price of ammo only goes up......I would pick up a box or two at the LGS if I didn't buy anything else..... my "stash" should last me.

FWIW seems the .17hmr has replaced the .22mag as the small varmint round ...... and is always in stock....

If you use "gunbot" you can see all online vendors in real time to see who has any caliber.

Yes, 22 mag supply is a challenge most everywhere. My wife has a Ruger LCR in 22 mag, and we were beginning to think it was a mistake when we could not find any supply of ammo for it. But last spring I found some at Cheaper than Dirt, and then I found some at a lgs. So we've got a couple hundred rounds on hand now. And NO, it ain't cheap.

After a long dry spell it's turning up in small quantities at gun shops and gun shows. Would love to find some 50 grain Federals, have a 48 8 3/8" that is super accurate with them.

I sometimes buy ammoseek.com In stock ammo, guns, magazines, and reloading supplies. Great site.

Rarely on the shelf in my area. I buy it when I see it, but usually wind up letting someone else have it. Have seen 2 CCI 200 round boxes in the last 6 months at Academy. That's it. My only use for it is a Ruger single six cylinder that I use when helping friends get comfortable with handguns.

Store shelves around here have been mostly void of .22WMR and .22LR ammo for quite some time. When it does show up the prices are ridiculous.
A couple of weeks ago on another forum a fellow that works for CCI posted that he primed 600,000 rounds on his shift. So there is still hope that more will become available and hopefully at more reasonable prices.

Luckily I haven't needed to buy any rimfire ammo since it started becoming scarce and prices climbed. My supply of .22WMR is still good, and with the exception of the Winchester Supreme most was under $10 a box.....$3.99 Armscor, $6.99 Fiocchi and $9.95 for Hornady 30gr V-Max.

Sadly the days of $12-$15 a brick of .22LR plinking ammo are long gone too, and my supply is dwindling.....

Around here there's always 22LR and 17HMR on the shelves. I am a big fan of 22WMR but from what I have noticed the past few years it tends to come around maybe twice a year and sells out quick. The last time I saw it on shelves was right before Thanksgiving and before that it was around April-May. I believe this may be a round that manufacturers do not make continuously all year long.

Ever since the end of 2012 and 22lr not being found on the shelves(at least around here).
22lr is not maturing enough to grow into 22wmr.

22lr is hard to find around here and I can't remember the last time I seen 22 mag on the shelf. I only have have about 5,000 round of 22lr left and I buy it when i can find it on the shelf but it usually has the sign up that says one box per day per customer. I sometimes use ammoseek to find some.
