Testing different ammo in my SW 9mm Performance Center 5" Pro
I tried some different ammo the other day that my daughter gave me, wasn't going good had FTF & FTE problems. I'm not posting this to bash ammo brands, posting because I have figured out wy it was happening.
I can run Remington 115g without any issues, she gave me Blazer 115g to try, had issues with those.
Below is what I come across.
Remington- over all length 1.110, diameter of casing .386
Blazer- over all length 1.155, diameter of casing .389
Conclusion=
Ammo with a over all length at 1.110 works perfect
Ammo with a 1.155 over all length interferes with the feed. I noticed that the angle of the bullet going up the feed rap makes the nose of the bullet hit the inside top of the barrel making it interfere with the feeding process.
I'm going to test some more ammo soon and post measurements and testing results.
Any body else having these issues, I hope this helps you.

Since it looks like your pistol likes the shorter OAL ammo you
might try to find some Augila 124gr FMJ that has a oal of 1.12"
Maybe try a cheap 115 or 124gr JHP also, since they are usually
shorter than the same weight FMJ or plated RN style bullets.
It takes time to see what will work but that is half the fun with pistols.
Bullet weight, fps, OAL, bullet style, decisions, decisions, decissions..........

Thank you for that info
I was wanting to try a heavier bullet weight with a slower fps to see if the accuracy at 20 & 25 yards would get better.

Thanks Nevada Ed,
Tried Augila 124gr FMJ ammo this last weekend in my S&W 9mm, very happy with the results at 25 yards held 2" groups. With no issues.
Ordered 2 boxes of American Eagle 124 grain & 147 grain, I'm hoping to get them by the weekend to try. I'll post results.

I have some factory 147 HST ammo but I have loaded some Speer 147 TMJ #4006 and am very happy with the test results so far.
HS-6 at 806 and Red Dot at 835fps in my 3.5" pistol both are tack drivers with a 1.165" oal......
Hope the heavy bullets will also work for you.
PS;
you might need to close down the lips of your magazine a little
to drop the angle of your long loads or get another magazine that
will work with long OAL ammo?

Tried the American Eagle 124 & 147 grain today, very happy with the 147 grain. Shot 200 rounds all Less than 2" groups at 25 yards with no issues, these are the best so far that I've tested. Ordered 1000 rounds of the 147 grain today for $250.00 that's the best price I found. Any body know of a place cheaper in price?
Still going to do more testing will post results.

You've just verified what others have said about M&Ps preferring heavy bullets...must be the twist rate of the barrel.
Also, 2" groups at 25 yds. is exceptional for M&Ps....3 to 5" groups are often reported.
Who did you order that 147 grain from? I need some too.
Thanks

FreedomMunitions ( https://www.freedommunitions.com/9mm...ion-s/1818.htm) sells new 147g round nose FMJ for $240/1,000, but that's without shipping. They have frequent 5% off, free or flat-rate shipping sales, and over most holidays they do both. I'm over 3,000 of their 9mm (my Kimber is more accurate with a 124g bullet and the model 986 likes it just fine), 100g FP.380 acp, and 158g .38 spl. Not a single problem.
They can be a little slow to ship, especially in conjunction with major sale events, but they're generally pretty good about putting up a warning banner when they think that's going to be a problem. Orders typically show up here in Enchiladaville about 5 days after I place them. I had one I placed during the Xmas sale that took 10 days, but that was for 3,500 rounds of various calibers (friends and family group order) all at 5% off and free shipping. When it got here the order was correct.

Yes, heavier bullets run best in both my M&P9pros. 130 gr and 147 gr are pretty much all I feed them these days.

You didn't mntion whether it was Blazer brass or aluminum. Aluminum sometimes won't feed because the aluminum is so hard the rim gets stuck on the case below it. Brass is soft enough to work in the guns that experience this. When it happens, it sometimes looks like the bullet is diving into the feed ramp.

Here's one of the targets I was shooting at 25 yards with the 147 grain American Eagle. Each ring is 1" thick from center out, I shanked one to the upper right but I'm really happy with the groups. I was thinking of getting a different barrel but have changed my mind.
