Default Perfecta .38 Special FMJ ammo

Sometimes... I blunder over something good. A few weeks ago while buying some things for my daughter's family I chanced to wander through the sporting goods dept. of Walmart. There in the case were two boxes of Perfecta .38 Special 158 gr. FMJ ammo at $13.97/box of 50 rds. I bought both boxes.

Now... on this past Tuesday while packing to return home, I dropped my 98% blued four inch Ruger Security Six on the brick floor of the kitchen. Remarkably... there was no damage to the revolver. I shot it yesterday and as normal it grouped its shots to the right of center on the target. Last night I found a properly ground screwdriver.

Today I dropped by the range w/ the Ruger and the Perfecta ammo to do some 10 yd. shooting. Four rounds at 4 yds. were touching. Six rounds at 7 yds. were ever so slightly larger. The next 40 rounds were fired at 10 yds. I ended up with on round leaked down barely into the 9 ring at 6 o'clock, one round pulled just inside the 9 ring at 3 o'clock and one round that I pulled up into the 9 ring at 12 o'clock. The other 47 rounds were well in the 10 ring nicely centered on the X ring.

This ammo was a little more energetic than I expected. I went looking but could find no factory listing of velocity. A Youtube video showed a man shooting this load from a 2" revolver over a chronograph. The average of 5 rounds was 838 FPS. Firing from a 6" revolver the average of 5 rounds was 906 FPS. The ammo is brass cased. It is manufactured in Italy and imported by Tula Ammo.

Does anyone know who makes this ammo? Does anyone have any exper. reloading the brass? From this small sample, I think this is pretty good stuff. It is full weight for the caliber, 158 gr. rather than the now to common insipid 130 gr. FMJ's. Given the price and on targets results, this stuff looks good. Sincerely. bruce.

Fiocchi makes it.

I have 50 pieces of .357 Mag Perfecta brass that a friend gave me. He said it shot well.

I haven't worked the brass yet, but it looks to be of decent quality. One notable thing I noticed about the brass was how clean it was. I think it must be some clean burning ammo, because there was no carbon or anything on it. After I tumbled it, I barely saw any difference at all.

Didn't think of Fiocchi. Makes sense. Sincerely. bruce.

Wally World has the 9MM for $9.87 for a 50 round box. I bought 500 rounds a few days ago. It's good target ammo.

Reading Fiocchi's website, it looks like this is their premium line, equivalent to, say, Federal's Gold Medal ammo.

$13.97 is pretty good. Last time I looked, my local WM had Perfecta .38 Special at $17 and 9mm at $13.

The 38 has got some Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah to it. Good muzzle flash and kick from a J-frame.
Distributed by Tula made in Italy on the box.

So far good stuff.

Their 9 mm and .45 ammo is good. Nary a problem using it.

I shot a box of the 357 mag last weekend, it seems to burn cleaner than the federal I was using. I found two boxes while I was in PA a couple of weeks ago, can't find it here in MO.

I was making my walk through at a WM that is usually "bare shelves". Today there were 2 boxes of the Perfecta .38special. Lady said she had gotten 24 boxes last night, had never had them before, and a gun show reseller had bought 20 a few minutes before I got there.I asked for 1, she pushed the 4 remaining at me, said "buy them, he'll be back, and I don't want him to get them all".

So I did. I was really looking for Perfecta 223 to replace what I burned through today, but none of that, so I'll be shooting 38 next range day.

Didn't I read that WM was going to stop selling ammunition for "Assault Rifles?"

It seems to have more than it's fair share of negative commnets on the interwebz lately, but me and my best shooting buddy have used it in .223, 9mm and 45acp, and found it to be good stuff.
Last I saw, the 9mm was at my local walmart for about $9.47, which is about .50 cents less than the Federal aluminum (which I also really like.)

That stuff on the website looked to me to be a different ammo entirely. And, it's highly unlikely that Fiocchi's most premium ammo is selling for under $10 at Walmart. It's always been my understanding that this is their most budget-oriented stuff.
Here's video of a guy comparing regular Fiocchi to the Walmart Perfectas, even pulling the rounds apart, and then cutting into the projectiles. They look to be nearly identical.

At the local WM today, the shelves were completely bare of any Perfecta handgun ammunition. There were a few boxes of .308. We may be returning to the days of over-demand and scarcity panic buying.
