Default Would you be lost without online ammo sellers?

Living in the ammo wasteland known as New Jersey, I rely on online ammo sellers.

Without online sellers I would not be able to find the following:

300 Savage
223/5.56 match ammo
257 Roberts
270 reduced recoil
12 Gauge 00 reduced recoil buckshot and slugs
243 100 gr.

If so then I am lost. I have never bought ammo online. However, the UPS truck has delivered bullet molds, gas checks, bullet lube, primers, brass and powder. What else does a man need?

I buy most of my ammo online. I get my 9mm target at Walmart, but .38sp is very expensive and hard to get in my area. .30 carbine is non existent. Also Self Defense ammo is no where to be found.

No. My Lgs is pretty competitive. But my needs are pretty basic.

22LR
9mm
45ACP
38 special, +P
357
45LC
44REM

without local gun shows I could not get more 30-40 so thank goodness for them

Nope, I load for everything I shoot. Except 22lr. That I get when I can but seems to be better just to pick it locally when I can find it. Seems like most online resellers are gouging for 22

Wouldn't miss them a bit here.
I can roll my own and i have a great shop 12 miles away
that carries all sort of ammo in case qty.'s
They have never been out of .22 LR even during the "crisis"
awhile back. After what several of the online dealers did during
the ammo "crisis" just enforced my will to never buy from them.

They are very handy when I need milspec ammo for .303, .308, & .30-06. But, then I reload the brass.
Their popularity will be enhanced in June when the Cook Co. IL tax on each cartridge ($.05 for center fire) goes into effect.

Wow, what part of Jersey? I have had good luck at LGS and for 9mm you can't beat Dick's.

Not in the least.
A long time ago I made sure that I had reloading dies, bullet moulds and everything else I need to load ammo for every gun I own , and for a few I don't own , but would like to or might some day.
Except for 22 LR , which I have the tools to do if needed . I used to buy a bulk pack box of 500 every time I went into wally mart and it was "on sale " the stuff was so dirt cheap then I always bought one or two of those bulk packs . I have plenty to last me and it's starting to show up on local dealers shelves again.

Not hardly. I have brass, dies, and moulds for everything I load for, and have powder, primers, and projectiles as well.

Well, with the exception of 22 LR which I don't shoot a lot anyway. But ~5500 rounds should get me down the road at least a little bit.

Oh, wait: not so. I just bought a Remington 591 in 5MM rimfire. Oh well, I have 150 rounds coming and there is still a bit of that stuff to be had. I guess I am still okay...

Not lost, but it's hard to beat the convenience of it. And no disappointment when you drive somewhere to find out what you want isn't in stock.

Online prices are good, too, even with the shipping.

Ammo in my area is in good supply, and competitively priced vs ordering online/paying shipping. I also reload all calibers I own and have supplies to do so. I can buy a box or two of what ever I need at the time, instead of having to buy in bulk.

We have no local gun shops and the closest shopping is 45 miles. Even then no place to buy reloading supplies. So I buy almost all of my shooting supplies through on-line vendors or through gun forum classifieds. I reload for everything thing that I shoot (except, of course .22) but do buy loaded ammo if the price is right either on-line or when traveling.

People ask why I live so far away from "civilization"; I leave my keys in my vehicles, never lock my house or shop, have no close neighbors and no crime. I do have four dogs that are friendly but will chew your leg off if you enter the gate without me or my wife there to tell them it's ok.
Oh, and I can walk outside and shoot any time I feel like it.

Holy Cow!! Methinks this is how the anti gunners will "get" our guns. Any tax always goes up unless there is a regime change. For the moment, we have the option to vote with our feet and go to another state if so harassed, but if the antis can get control of Congress and institute a Federal tax....
The *^&*@#$% are already regulating lead mining and smelting out of the country to attack manufacturing of ammo and reloading, which of course will also drive prices up from needing imports and more expensive bullet metals.
Even now the US military is looking at environmentally friendly (read: very expensive) munitions.

Back on subject, my calibers are popular and few, so between reloading and a few good LGS within twenty miles, I'm OK.
I still shop the web though, because occasionally somebody beats the daylights out of my LGS on price even with shipping.

Last time I bought factory ammo in any meaningful quantity 9mm ammo was $5 a box and .38 Special was $7. Even then I didn't but a lot of ammo online waiting for sales at Cabela's or Dick's Sporting Goods instead. I now load most of my ammo now so I have no need to buy but I can easily see how buying online is a must for some.

They sell ammunition on-line?

I wouldn't notice in the least bit! In 58 years I cannot recall buying even a single round of ammunition by mail order or on-line. Now, components, that is a different matter, although relatively few of even those/

Control the ammo and there is no need for "gun" control.
Back door gun control at it's finest. You have to watch those slick gun grabbers , they are a tricky bunch !

Can't buy ammo or components online in MA because our attorney general threatens to bring criminal charges on the grounds that dealers are supposed to have a state license to sell same. We used to be able to shop at Cabela's and other shops in CT until they changed the law and now require out-of staters to get a CT license or ammo permit.
Most large companies have turned their backs on us. Rumor has it that there are a few companies that will run the blockade, but their names are closely guarded, only shared at a whisper, and never in a public forum.

I just picked up 500 rounds of 40s&w. Took 30 seconds. How long does it take to reload that? From beginning to end?

I like CCI SV 22 ammo and it is really expensive and hard to find here in CA so I tend to shop around online and buy it in bulk when I can. Everything else I reload and mail order most of the components as well. I would rather buy locally but that is not an option very often.

I bought 100 rounds of 6.5 Creedmore for my new AR build. Going forward I now have the brass except for that 1 case that hides at each shoot......

I have lots of 270 Win and 300 WBY reloads.

I tried looking for 22 LR and even if listed in stock it ended up out of stock by money time.

The above is nicely tongue in cheek, but it is actually a serious comment.

State regulation can make it difficult if not impossible to obtain certain ammunition without a trip to "free state".

Trips out of state to obtain ammunition that cannot be obtained in a citizen's home state raise all sorts of esoteric Constitutional questions. Think going across state lines to buy cheaper alcohol or tobacco.

We live in interesting times.

Yes I buy online. At this time I do not have the expertise nor the time to reload. I have a lot of .38 and .357 brass + others just in case I ever do reload! Buy from a great company in OK!

Yep... dead serious.

For now, we still have Walmart stores as our number one "go to place" for ammo at a semi-reasonable price. Bass Pro and Cabela's are sort of tied for second place but Cabela's runs a lot more sales and promotions. Dick's is a distant third place (or would that be fourth place?) finisher.

The shows used to be really good for bulk ammo, but things haven't been quite the same since the big ammo shortage crisis of 2013/2014. You never really know what to expect anymore.

Other than that, the sales tax-free "Live Free or Die" state beckons... but even that option sometimes has its drawbacks.

I made my first online purchase just this weekend. I can find target ammo pretty easily but finding Gold Dots or any other SD Ammo is either impossible or stupidly expensive. Just waiting for it to arrive as it was shipped yesterday.

Online, all the .22LR I need is "out of stock", so I run around to local gun shops and sometimes get lucky.
I have bought .38 special and .44 special target loads online because all the gun stores seem to have are magnum loads. In fact, it seems like 95% of guns and ammo are geared to "home defense". I spend a lot of time at my gun club shooting paper bulls-eyes (yes, I'm a old fart).

If you have to ask about being "lost", you are already there...
