Default What .22LR ammo works best in your model 41?

CCI standard velocity seems to feed well, but it's hard to find. I tried Wolf's match, but it resulted in feeding problems. What do YOU use? Thanks!

I like Federal HV Match, 719. Although it is not trouble free in my gun. I haven't found anything trouble free.

If you like standard velocity, the Federal Target, 711B, is good ammo.

CCI Standard Velocity is a favorite, Remington Standard Velocity also works very well, Norma Match 22 is a little hot but shoots very well, Wolf was good but hard to get, cleaned my 41 very well and then it fed better. Win. T22 was also great but have not seen it for years.

Good luck!

For some reason the CCI standard velocity was very easy to get here for about a year so stocked up.

Always had the best luck in my Mod. 46 and Mod. 41 using CCI std. velocity. My Mod. 17, 18 and 34 like it also. I buy it when ever I can to keep a good stock.

.
Thanks for the reply so far. Maybe my 41 is one of the "finicky" ones. Any other comments from model 41 owners are appreciated.

Here's a couple of others that haven't been mentioned:
Aguila SuperExtra (1085 fps) and Norma TAC-22 (1100 fps) have worked well in my model 41 and extraction in model 17's is easy with it too, especially the Norma TAC-22.

I shot a lot of CCI standard velocity for practice and used RWS Target for competition. Great accuracy and very rarely an alibi. I clipped one and a half coils off my spring and it functioned very well. Shot it wet as well.

Mine seems to be fine with all the brands of ammo that I have tried but I use CCI SV. Seems like there are two kinds of model 41's, one is the one that is never a problem and will shoot anything and the other is one that only likes CCI SV and only if it has a new recoil spring and a tuned extractor.

My problem is failures to extract. The slide doesn't retract, so I conclude the cases are sticking in the chamber. Cleaning the chamber seems to help some, but is not a fix. I've been thinking of lightly lubing the cartridges.

Remington Target or CCI standard velocity. I am currently using Remington Target from 1994.

Update: I tested a number of brands today, and the "winner" was Remington LR "Golden Bullet" plated round nose. What surprised me was the fact that it is "High Velocity" (I though this gun needed standard velocity). All the brands I tested loaded and extracted OK, but I found that the trigger sometimes did not cock (new cartridge seated OK, but trigger is not cocked). No problems with the Remington after 40 rounds. Perhaps the high velocity is needed to get the trigger cocked in this gun? Any comments will be appreciated.

Default Finally a shoot with no fails.

Owned my 41 for 4 weeks. Fired 1000?? rounds.

CCI SV 20/550rnd
FEDERAL 525 Champ 5/300rnds

Today NO FAILS...I didnt clean the 41 after last shoot.
Not even snake in the barrel. 150rnds NO FAILS.
Fed 525 Champ 36grn copper plated and Eley Club 20rnds.
Fed was grouping well over 25m.

I use CCI Standard Velocity in my 41, but it may not necessarily be the best for all such guns. Lot-to-lot variations and other changes unknown to consumers may affect most, if not all of the less-than-premium (cheaper) .22 LR ammunition. However, production changes in the ammo may not be as significant as some claim.

For one truly interested in finding the most accurate and reliable non-premium ammunition, it's a wise investment in time and money to try at least eight or ten standard velocity ammos and shoot enough ten-shot 25 yard groups to really provide the shooter with solid information.

Then fire some groups offhand to make sure the gun feeds and functions with the same reliability in this mode as it did from a benchrest. There may be a difference.

My 41 is a contrarian. It hates the oft-touted CCI Standard Velocity. I used to shoot Remington Target without a hiccup, but Remington's quality isn't what it used to be. These days I shoot SK standard. It has a greasy lube that probably helps functioning. I suspect it works like the old trick of putting a drop of oil on the top cartridge.

I tried putting a drop of oil on my fingers as I loaded the magazine, getting a little oil on all cartridges. Worked great! No more failures.

Then I worried about the bolt slamming back without adhesion in the chamber slowing it down. So I tried Federal Target (1080fps), 711B, with the oiling, and it worked fine, too. So I have my load. Reliable and accurate. I keep a rag on the bench to wipe my hands off after loading the mag. A small inconvenience.

My theory is there is something wrong with the chamber in my gun. Too much adhesion when the cartridge goes off. Sounds like it might be a common occurrence.

As far as my 1970's vintage Model 41, I Just bought a full 5000 round case of CCI SV on a recommendation of a seasoned target shooter friend. What a mistake. Out of a handful of maybe 20 rounds, probably 6 actually plunk in and out of the chamber. The others have to be pushed into the chamber and some barely go in. Needless to say I can't even get through a full 10 round magazine without a jam or two. CCI was my go-to ammo for years. Now, that's over. Probably the best ammo I found was the USGI surplus Remington SV (shown in pics above). I bought a case from the CMP when they were $90 for 5K. Every round nicely plunks in the chamber and then falls right out when barrel is upended, and easily as accurate as the CCI. Really disappointed in CCI quality control.
