WARNING bad perfecta ammo from wallyworld
my buddy just tried out some perfecta .357 ammo he bought from walmart last month.he has a smith 586 6.the cylinder locked up after the first shot and would not rotate due to a ruptured primer.after finally getting the cylinder open and removing the bad case he tried another round with the same results.primer is blowing backward out of the case enough to lock up the cylinder.he took the 2 boxes back to walmart and the clerk seemed unconcerned, pointing to a sign which stated "all ammunition and firearm sales final"

Ah, the first post from a person, always a glimpse into the future. Wonder how many other firearms forums I'll see this on? My guess is five.

Walmart did not make the ammo... and all sales final for ammo and firearms sounds like an excellent idea. This issue needs to be taken up with the manufacturer - not the end retailer.

I got some Perfecta refried beans at Wally World. They might have me blowing backwards also.

Not taking ammo back is not unusual. None of my LGS will take them or even take ammo with a gun that's being sold. They don't know if anything was done to the ammo and don't want to be held liable if something was done. For ammo problems you have to go directly to the manufacturer

Has your friend fired other ammo of a different brand in this gun without problems or is the gun new to him? There was some kind of recall on the original 586 no dash revolvers many years ago possibly relating to this issue when fired with cartridges having relatively soft primers. I guess we need more info. Also there appears to be a typing error right after "586" in your original post so I don't know what it means.

Primers blowing out of a case are usually indicative of headspace/endshake issues. The gun needs to see a gunsmith.

In my 6" Colt Python, the three 357 magnum 158 FMJ loads that I've tested chronograph as follows:
Federal, 1,213 fps
Perfecta, 1,090 fps
PMC, 1,157 fps
As you can see, the Perfecta wouldn't be expected to blow out primers unless you had a defective batch.
Examine the firing pin and ensure that it's nice and round, if it was defective and sharp, it could contribute to a pierced primer.
As stated above, the no-dash 586 was known for this issue, but your misprint looks like the gun in question may be a -6. Note that the -6 doesn't mean 6" barrel, it is the model number stamped on the frame, visible when you open the cylinder.
Post some more details if you want to try to diagnose the problem. Photos of gun and ammo would help.

Good question, since this is the OP's first post, he took the time to register, just to post this, but the 'Buddy' didn't feel strongly enough to post it himself?
Personally, I'd rather get a first hand account from the person this happened to, so they might give more info on the firearm being used.
And... As others have mentioned, this is not WalMart's fault. They have no control over which ammo their buyer orders.
Now... If you have a Lot Number, you might post that, so that other shoppers of Perfacta ammo (from WM, or anywhere else) can be alert to that specific Lot of Perfecta.

This is what's called a "drive-by."
Op is likely not interested in replies, as evidenced by his last activity - 3 minutes after making this thread.

I have used Perfecta 9mm, 45acp, 223, 308 and a box of 38 special today with no issues got a box of perfecta today to run through my new S&W 360J shot great. Could of been a number of things bad batch of ammo QC was drunk on the job and so on. Never know. I buy it cause I'm cheap or don't have anything reloaded on hand. One of the nice things about reloading is when something like this happens the only person to blame is yourself.

I reload for all my revolvers 357 and 44 but I've been buying perfecta 9 when I see it in stock at Walmart. I normally don't see the muzzle flash but for some reason I noticed some variations with the Perfecta 9. It concerned me but I chalked it up to cheap ammo.
Walmart didn't make the ammo and has a no return policy on ammo BUT it's not a return for restocking. It's a return of a defective product. a dangerous defective product and Walmart should have been more responsive. I would have talked to the manager then his manager. Walmart makes tons of cash and can absorb loses like this or they can do like they do with most of their vendors and strong arm them to take it back.
Unfortunately I shop at Walmart but this may be a reason not to.
This is all assuming "buddy" is real. At least it wasn't a guy that knew a guy that your uncle knows.
Having said all that yea I would say yea check the gun first.

I shot 50 rds of the Perfecta 158 gr FMJ .357 ammo (got it for $14 and change at Walmart) today through my M66-8 and it ran great. Shot POA, clean burning, ejected fine. Couldn't be happier with it for plinking or target work, especially at that price.

I just got 2 boxes of the .357 from Walmart a few days ago. I used the other two in my Coonan and it worked great. At $17.00 a box I can't beat it. Burned clean and functioned good. If its a bad batch that one thing. Would like to see if others have had issues, but until I hear more I'll buy it.

I've shot 3 x50 of Perfecta .357mag in a PC 2.5" 7 shot 686 without any problems.They grouped nicely at 7 yards.
I've also shot several boxes of Perfecta 45acp and several boxes of 38spl without a single issue.
I shot all from revolvers.
I like the Perfecta brass for reloading.

P.S. Have 3 boxes I have not tried yet. Ammo produced by Tulammo; box says made in Italy. Company website does not yet list this .357 load.

The 3 Walmarts in my area are currently out of stock in all Perfecta pistol ammo.
For me,the Perfecta .45acp at $15.44 a box shot the most accurately of the 4 Perfecta pistol calibers I tried.
They were shot in a 4.2" Ruger Redhawk 5032 using Ruger moon clips.

Would this have possibly been a No Dash 586? If so look for the "M" stamp in the yoke area indicating whether or not it has been repaired for the recall.

I've never had a problem shooting Perfecta, but I do have some problems reloading the cases. While that's not a actual ammo issue per se, I do buy my ammo with the intent of reloading. The issue mostly occurs in repriming .45 auto. cases.

Same-Same
I once had this problem with a new S&W Model 19 and Norma .357 ammo. The primer didn't exactly blow out. Instead, the pressure reversed the hammer nose (firing pin) indent and turned it inside out, locking into the frame.

I've been using Perfecta 9MM and 380 from Walmart and all 100% fired. I had used .38 spec. also when I had my 637.

Had to post on this thread before it rightfully descends into oblivion. I just fired a box of this 'dreaded' Perfecta .357 ammo purchased at WM. Fired the entire box in a Ruger SP101 (Guess everyone knows I would try it in a small-frame snub!). Wonderful ammo. Clean burning and handled my pie-plate drills with no problem. Intend to rotate it into my .357 speed strip.
Just bought 4 more boxes. At wa-ay under $20 a box (forget the amount). I'd recommend purchasing it.

From Wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion,[3] often for their own amusement.
