Default Ammo Tests

Many moons ago I thought it may be interesting to test some of the then new ammo on the market I was using. Nothing scientific like ballistic gelatin but just wet phone books.

I don't know how these would compare with todays HST, Ranger and GDHP ammo but this is a yardstick to measure by. All 45 caliber.

Yup the old ammo was lethal. The newer stuff typically feeds a bit better and expands reliably even at slower velocities. Some have been tweaked or less flash as well.

The fastest stepping in that test was the Corbon at 1050 fps and the expansion shows it. The Black Talon was a nasty bullet. I put one in my pocket one day to take to work to show and tell and cut my finger getting it out. Those tips were razor sharp.

The jaggedness of the Black Talon just looks nasty.

It was, as I mentioned, sharp as a razor and you had to be careful handling one after expansion...it will cut.

Not with the Talons at least unless band aids are handy.
