You have hit on the frustrating problem of using moon clips on non-grooved cartridges: they have to be just the right size to work.
If you are using the TK Custom clips, Remington should work OK.

I use S&W moonclips in my 686 and for 38SP I am currently using Herter's brass case 158gr. Got them at Cabelas for 14 and change, during a sale and utilizing the club members discount.
I don't shoot Winchester anymore but everything else I've tried works fine in those clips.

I have the 640-1 .357 magnum Pro Series, but the same problems/solutions should apply. When I ordered moon clips for the gun, which I had bought used, and had no moon clips with it, I found on the vendors web site information that you had to choose moon clips of the correct thickness to match the brand of ammunition that you plan to use with the clips. I carry Speer 135 gr short barrel 357 mag ammo, so ordered the correct thickness of clip to match it. The manufacturers web site will tell you which clip goes with which manufacturers ammunition. Hope this helps.
Add information: here is a link that takes you to TK's site. You will find lots of very specific info here. Welcome to TK Custom.com & Moonclips.com

What is the deal on Herters, anyway? It's Cabela's brand, right? Some say it's Russian stuff; evidently this is USA made...is it just whatever they can get from various factories, then rebranded, or does it all come from the same place?

Herters yellow box is Russian made steel cased ammo.
The Select Grade black box used to be Fiocchi brand ammo but presently is made by Sellier & Bellot. Herters alum cased TNJ is made by CCI.

The TK moon clips work well with Federal and Remington brass. Winchester and others are too tight.

If you go to the TK web site I linked in post 5 above, you will find that they make the clips in different thicknesses for the different brands of cartridges, as different manufactures make their cases to slightly different specs. They make ones to fit the Winchester brass also. When I ordered my clips, I ordered the ones that fit the Speer cases, as that's what I carry. When I reload for this particular revolver, 45 ACP, with the half moon clips, or the Webley 455 MK VI that was "shaved" to take the same half moon clips and .45 ACP). The TK folks have a lot of info on just what clips to order for what brand cartrige. Something else you might want to consider is the clipping and unclipping tools. They make using the clips much easier.

If you have a Cabelas credit card, there is an additional 20 percent off code right now, plus they rebate 2 percent back on your store purchases.
The Herter's Select Grade (black box) that I've been getting is made by Sellier & Bellot in the Czech Republic. Been very good and clean shooting ammo.

If you load those Speer brass cases with a standard pressure load and put the ammo in the correct box how would the range know they are reloads. It's not like you are going to damage their backstop or targets since you are loading lighter, not heavier than the factors ammo. You will do no harm, have the ammo you need to practice and everyone will be happy.
