Value of Vintage S&W Blue Box .357 Magnum Ammuntion?
Hi all,
So I've been holding onto a box of 50 S&W .357 Magnum rounds that I originally bought back in the late 70's. They're 125gr HP, in a blue S&W box.
Anyone know what the value of these are now? There were some posts from THR.com about blue box ammo, but those were from 2004, and they pretty much just said to come here to ask. It'd be nice to get some more up-to-date information.

I don't really think they are that collectable but could be wrong. I see them go for around $25-$30 a box.
I still have some myself. Good ammo.

Somewhat collectable. Maybe in the $50 value range.

Some one may pay an extra $20 for the head stamp and box. $40-45.
But they sold millions of them.

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate it!
I suppose I'll continue to hold onto them then, just not worth parting with for $50.

Put them in a zip-lok and tell the kids to hang on to them !!
Too early for good prices........... need to age a little more.

I guess you're right, wait a while longer and,see if they go up. Hey, if the zombies attack you will be happy to have another 50 .357 magnum rounds available to blow their heads off!

Apologies to Will Rogers, I never met a box of ammo I didn't like. Recent production ammo like your .357s is too good to put aside as 'collectible," IMO. Consider it part of your ammo stash.

I agree with Oldman10mm and several others. I think they are collectable, all though just in the beginning stages and will appreciate in value over the next few years. I think, in the right place, at the right time, they are currently in the $50.00 range. They will become more valuable with a little more age. And yes, Smith made millions of them but we shot most of them up. Also remember that they were not considered top of the line ammo, back in the day. Smith "made/forced" dealers buy their ammo and holsters and other accessories in order to get guns. I agree, put them in a Ziploc, squeeze the air out and seal with some packing tape. This will keep the box in good shape (where a large part of the value is). Put them in a storage box, out of the light and break them out in another 10 years or so.

I see this ammo with some regularity.
To me, it's just ammo.
When priced competitively with contemporary ammo, I buy it and shoot it.
But I'm not the best judge of the value of middle aged ammo.
I'm better with older ammo in that I recognize it when I see it and am smart enough to check with soneone who knows the market.
