Nighthawk Boom
Now that's what I call a kaboom. Allegedly Armscor 10mm loads.
Nighthawk stepped up anyways.

Ladder13,excellent article regarding the British system of proofing firearms. I have a Swedish 98 mauser chambered for the 9.5x57mm cartridge and because the CIP states that the barrel is the firearm the serial number of the firearm is on the barrel. No Serial number on the receiver as is common with U.S. manufacturers. in checking the serial number on this FN 98 mauser action the rifle was assembled in 1928. Frank

Glad the shooter is OK. That was a spectacular failure and I'm certain it is an anomaly with Nighthawk.

I can't quite grasp what happened. There is more to this one, as is almost always the case.

I'm amazed Nighthawk is replacing the gun since no one is alleging it was a flaw in the pistol that causes the kboom. That is a spectacular sight, I really wonder how it happened?

I agree with the posters who think there must be more to this story. I have hand loaded the 10 mm round quite a bit in the past. Standard loads from manuals generally call for nearly full case loads of medium to slow powders. If one is following the manual, a double charge would spill over. If a fast powder was used in a handload accidentally, the blown gun shown could happen.
I would guess that Nighthawk decided to fix/replace the gun rather than see complaints posted all over the internet.

My theory is that a severe over charge caused the chamber in the barrel to rupture and as the slide was driven back under recoil that burst chamber acted like a wedge and split both the slide and the dust cover. What baffles me is that the chamber split instead of the barrel, so it may be that there was a flaw in the steel in the chamber that contributed to this particular failure. It's also possible that this round was mis loaded wiht a very fast powder like titegroup and the pressure rise occurred so rapidly that the bullet was still in the case when the chamber burst.

Does anyone know about Knighthawk productions. The gun appears to be cast. In my line of work we often broke and tore large metal objects. When we broke a tool that was cast, the break looked just like the guns break.
