Time to check your ammo supply again?
Due to yesterday's tragedy in Orlando, a logical assumption would be that there may well be a recurrence of the run on ammo and guns due to the intense anti-gun atmosphere emerging in its wake, and the fact that the 2016 election is approaching rapidly.

Ammo Supply
I am thinking of picking up another AR15, as there certainly will be a Democrat push to ban those nasty "un-needed by civilians" semi-auto black guns. AK47's will be another target of their excuse for disarming the populace.

I've got thousands and thousands of rounds for all of my pistol calibers, but only about 500 rounds of 5.45/.223. Might be about time to buy a case (or two).

S&W and Ruger stock jumped 10%. Not sure it will be the same panic as last time, but i did see some classified ads, where the seller withdrew his AR from sale. He wrote: "Withdrawing this rifle from sale and depending on the climate, will post at pre-ban price later." Should be interesting...

Ammo Supply
It's already started on target 223/556 ammo if you buy on line.
I like the Wolf Gold 223 for target and I bought 500 last night w/ free shipping from Sportsman's Guide. It shows to be out of stock today. SGAmmo is out of stock. The Armory is out. Target Sports shows to still have some. Get it now.

Mentioned on another thread that I saw folks at Wal-Mart and Academy using store carts to clear the economy ammo, no flimsy hand baskets. Stopped at three (bare shelves) Wal-Marts on my way home, last one was just putting out the last of the Perfecta I wanted. Wasn't looking for cases. Good thing.
Called my WM manager friend today. He said they had put out the big shipment they got for Father's Day Saturday night, and it was all gone late yesterday. Had been expected to last through next Saturday.

I'm happy I have a large supply of .22 RF and also reloading components. Lots of shotshells too, but I don't remember any runs on shotshells in the past. Hot ones more subject to a run would be .22, 9mm, .40, .45 ACP, .223, .308 and 7.62x39. I think .44 Mag, .38 Special and .357 supplies were also affected in the past, but not to the extent of the others.

I think I have enough to make it through the next shortage. I started building up my stock right after Sandy Hook. Well, not right after. I think it was 6 months before I started finding it on line. Walmart was bone dry, and the LGS's were asking too much.
Most 9mm and .223 was almost double what it is right now. If you could find it. And of course .22lr was non existent.
I've been replacing it as I shoot it so the stock level stays about the same. I feel like I should buy more now, but honestly, I'm out of storage space. I'm not talking about 10k of everything, just 2 or 3K of the big three. 9mm, 45 ACP, and .223/5.56.

Here in NY we had ammo last week but it might be gone now.
I have not found 22 ammo more than 4x at walmart in 2 years with 1 visit every week. I still can only purchase 3x boxes at a time per manager policy.
I expect a run but we already are NY Safe Act banned so there is NOTHING fun to buy. People will buy ammo probably and some handguns. But there are only NY compliant ARs for sale and a few other gun types.
It is not as fun as it used to be.

I don't think that the people are spending their hard earned money stockpiling arms for surrender to the government if they ever demand it. This could get interesting.

Yep another senseless tragedy, impossible to predict but impossible
to not expect. I would like to check and organize my ammo and
component supply after this incident but I just don't feel up to all the
work and time required to do so :-)

I'm old, can't get out as much anymore, and can't afford to shoot for recreation. I have enough ammo to defend myself in an immediate emergency. I don't anticipate either an apocalyptic breakdown of society or a massive gun grab taking my three remaining guns.
I couldn't afford to buy from the people who likely will purchase huge amounts of ammo for resale at ridiculously inflated prices.
So I guess I just won't panic. You guys do what you please.

Ain't that the truth.
It's a snow ball effect. People start checking online sites to see if anything is moving. Once they start to see availability depleting they panic and start buying. The next guy sees even less and thinks he better get in on it before it's too late and buys some too....and so on

Snow ball effect to be sure. I looked at SG Ammo and they are stripped nearly bare of FMJ, plinking ammo. The SD stuff is still to be had. I guess people are more concerned with enjoying their toys or planning for the apocalypse .
I'm OK with what I have for now. I'd like to pick up another case of each of my favorite calibers before Nov. If not, I'll still enjoy the shooting sport with what I have on hand. I'm set for SD ammo for the foreseeable future.

Glad I got my AR when I did, and I only need one. I had just ordered 5 boxes of 22lr (1,625 rounds) on Friday, they showed up today. Monday I ordered 1,000 .223 bullets for loading as I shoot my supply up, which will take me a long time. I think I've bought a pound of powder or brick of primers every couple of weeks ever since it came back on the shelves. I'm in better shape than I was after the 2013 shooting that started the big buying panic nationwide, so I doubt that I'll change my buying habits, unless y'all buy it all up.

Every run on ammo since 2008 has been completely irrational. I don't understand what people think is going to happen other than the inconvenience of waiting for the supply chains to catch up.
I will remind my fellow shooters that the current administration has been trying to get some kind of gun law past and has been unable to do pretty much anything in seven and a half years. At the rate that Washington gets things done, if it starts to look like the politicians are going to really come after our ability to get ammo, there will be more than enough time to get to Wal-Mart or Cabela's and clear the shelves.

In my travels today, the local Wal-Mart had no .22, but that much is not news. No 9mm or .223 either, but other calibers seemed to be there. The local Academy store still appeared well-stocked, but very light on 9mm and .223 as far as I could tell. All the "cheap" 9mm and .223 ammo was gone, just the high-priced stuff remained. Clerk behind the gun counter told me their ammo sales jumped yesterday. Not nearly as much .22 out now as the last time I was there, but they did have about a half-dozen 1400 round plastic bulk pails of the Remington 36 grain HP ammo at $80 per. Not bad, at about a nickel per round. I nearly bought a pail, except I have a lot of .22 already. I did buy five 50-round boxes of Aguila Standard Velocity .22 LR at $3.99 per, as I don't have a lot of .22 LR SV in my stash. And I do need to use around 150 rounds of SV for a little research project I am doing next week.

The final calamity has been coming since about 1947, as I recall, and seems to be taking its time. But if preparing for it makes folks more comfortable, that's fine. Whatever works for them. It's just not for me, even if I could afford it. If I'm wrong, well, silly old me.
I keep coming back again and again to the fact that I've seen worse, more dangerous times than this, and the banner yet waves.
Guess I'm just more inclined to the long view. Maybe read too much history.

My feeling is that the current "panic" will be quite short lived, both on modern sporting rifles and on ammo. Depending on how the election goes there might be an even bigger panic in November. But I think there will be ammo in between. If you don't need the ammo in the VERY near future, don't pay an inflated price now. I recently got my first AR and I've got about 1200 rds for it. Not much, but I really don't expect to shoot more than 100 rds a month out of it, so I have at least a years supply. I'm pretty well loaded on all my other centerfire caliers and .22, so I'm in no hurry to buy anything.

Local Cabelas and Bass Pro is slap empty. Not even an AR on the shelf. Wal-mart had a little 9mm left this after noon. .223, .22lr and .45acp is gone dry. Sad part is we have had .22lr in stock on the shelves for a few years now. =-(
I guess its a good thing Ive got enough ammo to last me through the next few elections. =-)

Don't have a Cabelas around here, but Bass Pro had plenty of ammo this morning.
Even had 300 round boxes of 22 lr in stock -- along with pretty much everything else.
Noticed some 38 S&W and 32 S&W in fact. Don't see those often.

My local Cabela's has plenty of ammo. They have virtually every flavor of .223/5.56 that they carry. I notice they did yank most of the sale prices on .223 yesterday, probably to protect their supply. I don't know if they had AR's because I didn't look.

i can't see how a new panic would get deep.
most everyone on this site has a cushion now.
i mostly shoot 22s n i've been getting extra for the past year.
i won't pay inflated prices again, or at least more inflated.
everything i buy is more costly than it should be anyway.
gotta say tho, i can't get a multi year supply on a fixed income.
i shoot 200- 300 rounds/ week, so 2 cases is barely a one year supply.

Went to my local Cabela's as is my usual Friday after work stop, and they still have plenty of ARs out on the floor, stock has been thinned, but still have plenty. All of the sale prices on .223/5.56 ammo has been removed, and the shelves were a lot thinner than when I went last Friday, a lot.....much of the .223/5.56 bulk ammo is gone.
My local Academy has pulled all their ARs off the shelves, but they seemed to have plenty of .223/5.56 ammo on hand. The handgun ammo at Academy was very picked over as was their .22lr, they are now limiting to 500 rounds per person per day. So, I got my 500 and left happy.

Flipmeister, I heard the same about a year ago. When I sold back a lemon Winchester earlier this year, I asked again, and was told that the proposed sale of Cabela's was put off until at least 2020.

Stopped in my lgs twice this week. Tuesday they said was busier than usual with a lot of calls. Of course sales too. They keep the AR mags in the center of the floor in their original large cardboard boxes that they came in. Troy and Pmags. On Tuesday both were still full.
Yesterday they were getting towards the bottom. I'd say less than 1/3 of a box, which is about knee high and holds several hundred mags. No limits on anything but more people were congregated around the AR section, which is also where the Glocks, M&Ps and XDs are located. People handling a lot of cheaper ARs. Don't know how many actually bought. The used gun case is still full of double stack handguns but mostly 40s&w as has been the trend for the last 6 months or so.
All in all I predict a steady climb in sales till after electielection. This won't be a free for all, grab everything now like Sandy Hook was but the up tick in sales won't die down and may pick up steam as as we go. At least this is my prediction

[QUOTE=Flipmeister;139132294]One of my hunting buds is one of the managers at the local Cabelas, I got that from him. BTW, he's looking for another retail management position, I guess things at Cabelas isn't too good right now concerning employees.
I know the local store has a huge turnover in employees but I believe it has more to do with wages and hours than anything else.
I have noticed the local store is understaffed. Spent almost 45 minutes waiting at the firearms counter the other day (weekday, mid day) waiting for a salesperson (take a ticket for a number). Was one person in the department. Waited 45 minutes to ask a question and found out I couldn't get what I wanted anyway.
I was inquiring about a 460 XVR long barrel and was told by the person that Cabelas (even though they are listed on the S&W site as an 'authorized S&W retailer' that they would not special order the XVR 14" for me. They only offer what they have as an in stock item.
I know they are in production and available so I called my alternate source (LGS). I'll have one this week.
In the past, that was never an issue. I've special ordered non stock firearms from Cabelas before.
Additionally, Cabelas is an 'Authorized Dealer' for Vortex Optics (as listed on the Vortex site and confirmed with a phone call to Vortex). I wanted to purchase a Vortex Summit Carbon Fiber tripod (SC2). again, no luck. Not an in stock item so Cabelas won't order one. I even called Sidney and spoke to a buyer... nada.
I got it from B&H Photo in a week (also an authorized Vortex dealer).
It's all kind of strange to me. Why would the 'Worlds Foremost Outfitter' not be attuned to the customers needs and wants?
I like to patronize Cabelas, the store is 2 miles from me, but, if I cannot get the items I want and they won't even order them, I guess I take my business elsewhere....[/QUOTE
Your patience is admirable, as is your loyalty, but you've waited too long. No regular customer with $ in his pocket looking to spend should be treated in that manner. Time to "vote with your feet." No guessing. Good luck!
