32 acp in a S&W 32 Long revolver
I'm wondering what kind of accuracy people are getting when shooting 32 acp in an S&W 32 caliber revolver like a M31, M30, M431, etc.
I've read accuracy it poor, but is this backed up (or refuted) by anyone's experience?

I shoot .32 acp in my 3" 31-1. Good plinking ammo and I haven't noticed any real difference in accuracy at the 7 yard line............

My experience -- lousy accuracy.

Some commercial loads use or did use a .310 dia bullet in the 32acp at times.
Those FMJs would most probably not give the best accuracy thru a .312 bbl. But at short ranges, not much to argue about.
FWIW,,,32acp ammo is commercially loaded to 5K psi above the upper limit of 32S&W Long.
Maybe not much for a more recent production 32S&WL H/E DA revolver to handle but I'd keep them out of the older production and non H/Ej designs.
The 32acp case (semi-)rim is .010" thinner than the 32S&W rim also, so you have excess headspace built into the combination right off.
Just some thoughts..

^^^^What he said. 2152hq is a knowledgeable shooter. It generally is not a good idea to shoot anything in a gun other than the ammo for which it is chambered. In an emergency, when the SHTF, that's your call. I once fired a .30 M1 Carbine round in one of those auxiliary adapters in a .30-30 rifle. The adapter split: no more adapters, thank you.
I read recently on this forum that the downfall of the 9mm Federal rimmed ctge. came when someone found it could be chambered in a .38 S&W top-break... Would that be 2x or 3x the pressure of the .38 S&W? Perhaps someone has more details?

As I said in another recent thread, .32 ACP can work OK in a later solid-frame revolver chambered in .32 S&W Long. But there are two problems - a small diameter semi-rim and also a thin (semi)rim. The first can result in extractor star over-rides. The second causes excessive headspace and may well result in occasional misfires. I have experienced both conditions. No problem for recreational use, but I would not use .32 ACP in a defensive situation.

Makes sense.
Interestingly, the rim thickness for 32 S&W and 32 ACP are the same at .045 inches.
And, like you say, 32 s&w long rim is .055 thick.
The gun is designed to shoot 32 S&W, but perhaps the primers are harder with 32 acp?

Don't get me started about hard and soft primers.
