Default Buffalo Bore 20c/20 .38 Special load

I have been wanting to try some of the Buffalo Bore .38's and recently picked up a couple boxes. I am shooting the 180 grain .357 Heavy Outdoorsman in my 686's and have been very pleased.

I bought a couple of boxes of the 20C load. A 158 grain soft cast LSWHP with a gas check at 850 fps out of a 2" barrel. It is marked standard pressure, low flash, Non-+P. These things have a monstrous hollow point. I finally got the chance to shoot some of them yesterday.

To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. I shot two five shot groups out of my 442. Both groups came in at about 2" off hand at fifteen yards and about 2" above my point of aim. Perfectly centered up above the bulls eye though. The most accurate load I have tried out of this gun by far and pleasant to shoot compared to some of the other SD stuff I have tried. I am going to pick up a couple more boxes and discontinue testing for this particular gun.

I have tried several of the Buffalo Bore loadings in various calibers and have been impressed with each of them. Nothing bad to say about their ammo besides the cost, but you do get your moneys worth.

While my preferred snub load is the Speer SB-GDHP, the standard pressure LSWCHP from BB is a close second.

Buffalo Bore's QC and performance is benchmark IMO. To date, they are the ONLY manufacturer of ammunition I have ever tested to do EXACTLY what they publish! Not only do their products perform to the exact specs. but it is also the most consistent ammo I have ever shot. In shooting a box of 20 rounds of the .38 Special HEAVY +P LSWCHP-GC from a 2" snubby, you can expect 15 fps or less variation according to my Chronograph - that's incredibly consistent! Accurate as hell too!

At 1025 fps velocity out of a 2" Cheif's Special BB's 20A/20 is moving at faster velocities than most .357 Mags of 158 grains from the major manufacturers from the same 2" gun.

Along with Speer's .38 Special +P 135 grain Short Barrel GD it is among the best of the best for a .38 Special Revolver SD work IMHO. While the standard velocity 158 BB is about 150 fps slower than the +P version, it too is very consistent, accurate and will do what they say out of the same 2" snub gun - another excellent load. The BB standard velocity is way faster than the Rem & Win +P of same bullet (FBI) design. Again, these have all been tested from my chronograph through my 2" M60-7.
