Default TulAmmo -- 38 Special

The cheapest 38 special ammo I can find for mail order is TulAmmo 130 gr FMJ.

Has anyone tried this stuff?

If it reasonable practice ammo, or will it blow up my gun or something.

So nobody's tried this ammo?

At 19 cents per round, it would be a noticeable savings for practice.

I believe it's steel case.

And in typical Internet style, some reviews say it takes hand tools to extract it, and other reviews say it extracts with no sticking at all.

Reasonable extraction matters to me. As does at least decent accuracy.

Guess nobody wants to admit they bought steel cased 38 and endure the wrath of the reloaders.
I've only seen it online but if the price goes a bit lower, to cover shipping, I'd buy some to try.

There was a thread about it a week ago.

I generally shoot a lot of steel case ammo and not just Tula, however I just don't happen to have tried the 38spl yet.

Here are the answers you will get.

1. I use it all the time it's fine
2. I never ever ever use steel anything in my guns
3. I don't buy commie ammo
4. My friend's, grandfather's dog's chew toy's former owner once had his gun explode
5. If it works use it. If not move on to something else

A friend posted on a local board here that he tried it and had trouble getting it to eject from his revolver. Tried 3 or 4 cylinders full and every round had to be driven out with a wood dowel.
Haven't tried it personally.

I haven't shot any, but I haven't had opportunity to (only centerfire revolver I have access to is my dad's old S&W snubnose, will have to go over and see what model it is).
.

I have no qualms about safely shooting the ammo, I do use the ammo in communist surplus weapons and it's always functioned completely fine and acceptably in those. I don't think a risk of a kaboom is anything to worry about, any more than any other brand.

I don't shoot it out of pistols designed in the West (Nato countries), because in my opinion those guns were designed around brass cases, and I'm a little bit hesitant to test the extractors on steel cases when I can buy brass for nearly the same costs. That's my personal decision, and it might change if the prices don't match up in the future.

Regarding revolvers, I've read online that people have a lot of trouble with the cases sticking in the cylinder. Had I not heard of the ejection issues, I wouldn't hesitate at all. Hearing of those issues, I'd suggest a test run before buying in bulk.

I picked up one 50 round box of the 38 special for plinking from my LGS to try it out. Was afraid to buy a larger quantity for now.
I`ll post when I do try it. The .357 gets a LOT of bad reviews. (sticking in cylinders)
Regards , Pete

Wasn't but a week ago someone posted about cylinder binding due to using Tula .357. I wouldn't try it.

Well, instead of asking total strangers about their experience (or lack there of) regarding this ammo, why don't you just buy a box and try it yourself? Then you'll know if it works well in your personal firearms or not.

I just shot a box of Perfecta 38 and had no problems with the shells sticking. Seemed to have a little more oomph than the Georgia Arms 147 grain wadcutters I shot too.

The Range I shoot at has a sign on the Door stating absolutely no TulAmmo is to be shot there.

I had a big problem with TulAmmo .357 "Magnum" ammo. After two rounds in my 386NG the cylinder would not turn no matter what we did with the trigger, hammer or cylinder.
With one of us forcing the trigger and hammer and the other forcing the cylinder, we finally got it free. sent it to S&W. They replaced the hand and cylinder stop.
I'm done with TulAmmo.
