Default Remington 44 magnum high velocity

At the back of my ammo cabinet I found a full box of "Remington 44 Magnum High Velocity ammo. 240 gr SWC.

It's probably 30+ years old.

Does anyone remember this load or have info on it?

How high velocity is it? Is it hotter than most current loads?

I don't remember it, but if it's all lead, I wouldn't fire it in any gun of mine. It won't damage your gun, but you'd next be posting here about how to get the lead out of your barrel. It can be done, but it's perhaps more work than cleaning up after corrosive ammo.

Run, Forrest! Run!

If I remember correctly its a 1/2 jacket ammo, so leading will not be a problem. I fired a bunch of it way back when and it had some snap to it. Fired it out of a 4'' & 8 3/8.

Thanks. Only .357 ammo from that time sticks in my mind as really non-functional, but the OP's descrption left me wondering.

That may well be early RP type. If so it may offer higher velocity than later lots of ammo........

It's probably just std. full power 44 magnum ammo labeled to
distinguish it from their medium velocity ammo they used to load. The
240 gr lead SWC will most likely have a gas check to help reduce
leading but expect some leading to occur.

I agree with the first part. And,if it is on the box described as half jacket, you shouldn't have any leading problem with it. If it is lead bullet with gas check, you will get some leading like Alswslate said(I got experience with such, that's how I know!).The lead that was used to make those was so soft!

As far as pressure is concerned, you shouldn't have any problem if shooting it in any good shape .44Mag.These years were already seeing detuned loads from every manufacturers in every calibers.

20 or more years ago I got a deal on a case of Remington 357 Magnum High Velocity. They came in little 20-round boxes. They shot fine, like a full-house reload, but not really hot. I found the last couple boxes a year ago and shot them in a Trooper; they were fine.
