10mm factory loadings ?
Hi folks,
Since I enjoy our sport, reloading is likely in my future. I don't have space presently, which leads me to my question.
Which factory loads do the gurus recommend for training, SD, and possible hog-hunting with either a Glock G40 or Colt Delta Elite?
Thanks !

Hunting: The heavier Underwood loads in the Glock.
Lighter hollow points for SD (Haven't shot enough to have a preference).

Groo here
Most "range" loadings are similar to hot 40 S&W.
Normal loadings are some what watered down.
Underwood,Buffalo bore, corbond, doubletap and the federal
180gr hunting load seem to be loaded to original pressure.

I swear by Underwood in my 10mm pistols for defense will use nothing else. However there is a big white sticker on every box NOT to run Underwood regular loads in a Colt Delta. Underwood offers a lighter load specific for the Delta.
Word of advice pull the barrel on your Delta and check case support at the rear of the chamber if you run hot 10mm loads and want to keep your HAND!! Colt refuses to use a ramp barrel in the Delta where other 1911 platform 10's do.
Absolutely no issues with running Underwood in your Glocks though.
Have run hundreds f rounds of Underwood 10mm through my Glocks and my Smiths with no issues. Underwood is less $ more punch cleaner burning than any 10 mm ammo on the market!!

The 10mm is such a versatile round, it can be tapered to fit the needs of the shooter. My Glock 20 shoots them all quite well. I do not really hunt, but there are many full power heavy bullet loads around for that purpose. For defensive loads there are several choices. One would be a heavy JHP (180-200 grains) at full power, which also make good hunting rounds. Another option would be a lighter JHP (135-165 grains) full power load. These seem to optimized for defense, as you have a lighter round traveling at high velocity, similar to the vaunted .357 Magnum. Still another option for defense is the heavy JHP at lower power - often called the 10mm lite or FBI load. Many factory loads are loaded at this power, and are closer in performance to the .40 S&W, and a great example of this is the Federal Hydra-Shok. This is 180 grain moving at around 1050 fps. I like this load in my Glock 20 for home defense, and would work great in a 1911 as well. While it is less powerful, it is an easy shooting load that still offers good stopping power, sort of how sometimes a .38 Special +P works better in some situations in a revolver than the full house Magnums. Also, many target loads seem to be loaded to this lower power as well.
Either way, the 10mm is such a great round, you really cannot go wrong either way!

There are plenty of options for reloading even if you live in a studio apartment. When I was in college I kept the press on the floor in a closet with the needed accessories in a tool box sitting next to the press. When I wanted to reload, I brought everything out and C-clamped the press to a table with a piece of wood underneath the press to prevent damage to the finish.

There are a couple of new, decently priced 10mm rounds on the market. One is the Sellier & Bellot 180gr FMJ. Great for target practice as it is not the under powered ammo we are used to seeing like Armscor, PPU, AE, Etc. Rated at 1164 fps, it beats the others by about 100 fps.
Sportsman's Guide is selling it for $15.99 per box of 50, $15.19 for members. Also free shipping with the discount code found on their web site.
Another new comer to the 10mm market is Sig Sauer. Their 180gr FMJ is rated at 1250 fps. Close to full power. It is also very reasonably priced. I've seen it at Selway Armory and a few other places for $22.95 per 50. About 10 Bucks cheaper than Federal AE and 8 bucks cheaper than Underwood. Sig Sauer also sells a 180gr JHP V Crown at 1250 fps. Haven't tried it, but should be a good SD round.
I shot both those brands last week and was duly impressed. Both are accurate and clean, and I had no malfunctions with my 1006. I think S&B is going to be my go to practice ammo.

Underwood has a number of high-quality choices for 10mm Auto. I'd not heard of the Sellior and Bellot loading, but it sounds excellent. Their FMJ cartridges are pretty hot and ball ammo does well at the range or in the field (I use their 140 grain FMJ cartridge in my .357 Sig) I would stick with 180 to 200 grain bullets with the original velocities. Velocity is king, but smaller bullets can fragment at advanced speeds, reducing penetration.

For my G29 my fav SDA is the Uw 10mm 200 XTP (1250 fps). I've shot a box of Hornady 10mm 170 XTP (1150 fps) and they did well. I got two more boxes of the 170 for stock.
I'm pretty well stocked up on Uw 10mm 200 XTP with one box of 10mm 200 FMJ in 'em. Also got a 40sw barrel and plenty of 40sw ammo as well.

For hunting Federal has a 180 gr Trophy Bonded, I don't know much about it (I don't shoot 10mm) but it is definitely worth looking into. I would be wary of any loads that produce velocities above what the bullets used are designed for (like 180gr gold dots loaded at 1300fps).

Uw has the 10mm 180 loaded at 1300 fps with both GD and XTP.
I shot a box of it and whew, they shoot hard.
