Winchester .22 42gr power point ammo find
Was in a new gun shop and found Australian made Winchester power point .22 42gr bricks of ammo. Used to hunt rabbits. A little more punch. Has anyone used this?

I think you mis-read. For years Winchester has offered a 40 gr. Power Point .22 LR, not 42 gr, that was designed originally by their Australian subsidiary. Nothing new. It is supposed to be one of the very best .22 LR hunting cartridges offered by any maker.
Here is a a link to this product on the Winchester web-site: http://www.winchester.com/Products/r.../X22LRPP1.aspx

They had a Dyna-Point that I think was for big Aussie hares, not just for "rabbits." This may be the re-named Power Point.
I think it'd be a sound choice on all larger small game, inc. foxes and raccoons, which are nearing the limits for animals that should be hunted with a .22.

Winchester Power Point 42 Max (1320 fps) has been cataloged for at least 3 years. I saw some one time at a gun show and bought 2 x 50 round boxes. I tried it in my best bolt action rifle and it did not group very well compared to the Power Point 40 HP (1280 fps).
The best Winchester hunting round I have found is the Hyper Velocity 40 HP (1435 fps). It looks like the same bullet as the Power Point 40 HP, but I can tell the difference in the big exit wound on squirrels. Both 40 HP loads group under 2" at 100 yards from my bolt action CZ.

What he says.
I find the 1280fps Power Point to be the most accurate from lot to lot .22LR that Winchester makes.

Being a Aussie the Winchester 42gn Power Points are all i use in my 9422 Trapper & are great for shooting feral Cats & Rabbits. The 42gn subsonic Power Points work very well also & are very accurate, worth a try if you can find them over there ($55 a brick here)
