Default Another 22 Thread!

The 22 drought seems to easing, sort of.
Lately I have found more 22 for sale in more places.
But I have not seen a 'regular' supply where you can just pick out what you want. It's still more buy what they have.
So here's the question - if the inventory allows a vast number of choices, what would you buy?
Besides the usual suspects, I see and hear about completely new to me brands.
Which of these new mystery brands do you like, if any?

Default Another 22 Thread!

I had always used whatever bulk Kmart had in stock years ago for rabbit hunting and plinking. At 25 yards everything works. When I started shooting again ten years ago,I liked CCI sv.My latest try has been with Norma TAC.Seems to be fairly good stuff from my rifle at 50 yards.Ive gone back to bulk for my pistols for now.

Yeah, but I almost wish they hadn't come back....:-(

I bought 2 bulk packs of Win 555's. They were different mfg codes and i bought them a few months apart. Both were short rounds, had empty primed cases in the lot, plus had loose bullets and/or crooked ones. Some had stripped lead when the bullets were seated, making them non-chamberable in a revolver.

Win offered to return them (but not replace), and since I hadn't seen any in 3 years i elected to keep them.

Used to be Rem on my ####list, but now i have another.

I like CCI. It's one that I don't usually see.
As a matter of fact, I ordered some today- Cabela.
Aguila is one of those I have never shot.

Just bought some CCI Stingers and some bulk American Eagle earlier this week at a LGS. Still not always readily available in my neck of the woods. Although, it's certainly better than it was a couple of years ago. I just hope the trend towards availability continues.

Aguila put out a press release awhile back that they had significantly ramped up production down Mexico way.

It's easy to find, not too dawgawful pricewise & is definitely a step up from Walmart bulk as far as accuracy & reliability go. I have had zero duds out of many hundreds of rounds. The Eley priming system is the real deal.

Still hit and miss in my area of Colorado. Walmart rarely has them. The farm and ranch store, remaining nameless, gets them but saves them for their buddies and themselves. I was told this by a former employee. I have a tendency to believe them since the only CCI's they seem to have are the quiet rounds. I did go to a gun show a couple of weeks ago and noticed that 22lr's were priced around what they are online, so not much price gouging, like a couple of years ago.

I recently tried Aguila on the suggestion of a target shooter. I am very happy with the consistency and accuracy I am getting with it on all my handguns.

Aguila SuperExtra is excellent--as good or very close to CCI Standard.

I saw an empty Aguila box in the trash at the range the other day. It was marked, "$6.59". Or 13 cents a round.

My .38 Spl handloads:

Bullets - $34.50/500, 7 cents each
Powder - $21/lb, 7000 grains to a pound, 3-grain charge = $0.009/round
Primer - 3.5 cents each

Total: $5.64 a box, or 11 cents a round.

Default 22 WMR CCI

Did my Saturday shopping and swing by the ammo case at Wal-Mart. To my surprise, they had 22 WMR CCI for $13.47 with 3 box limit.. That's a good deal! That was a two and half year effort.

Around north Texas, Gander Mountain, Academy, Cabellas, Bass Pro and WalMart all seem to have .22 in stock at around 8 cents per round all the time and most of them have no limits on the amount you can buy.

No problem finding .22 ammo here.
Gander Mtn. has Remington golden bullets @ $8.99
per hundred right now. Also they have American Eagle 50rd.
boxes but i have been shooting and having good luck with
the Federal Auto Match ammo that comes in a white 325rd.
box. They sell them for $19.95
It is a round developed for autoloaders and my 10/22 loves
this stuff. They supposedly use a powder that burns completely
and cleanly. It shoots very well in my .22's
I also have some of the Aquillo but i haven't shot any of it yet.

Our Cabelas also "Always" has .22 ammo on their shelves.
The store is about 30 minutes away but if i'm heading in that
direction i will stop in and buy some ammo.

Try the Federal Auto Match if you get a chance.
