IMI ammunition 45acp
I picked up a couple of boxes of IMI (Israeli military Industries) 45acp 185 grain swc ammunition. This ammo shoots well but seems to be a bit snappier than my 185 grain lead swc loaded with 4.8 grains of W231. I was wondering if anybody has run this through a chronograph. Can't find any info about this ammo.
thanks

That IMI is probably loaded to what the NATO specs were, which is probably 10%+ higher pressure than standard domestic commercial loads. NATO 9mm rounds are almost +P for example.

The overwhelming majority of what I've ever heard about any IMI ammo has been very positive, and that it's all on the "spicy" side. As Racer X said, it's almost for sure at least loaded to NATO specs, which are noticably hotter than standard US ammos.
BTW, just out of curiosity, where'd you get it, and what's it running?

IMI pistol ammo really hasn't been available the last several years IMO.
Was more prevalent 10-15 years ago.
See quite a bit of their 5.56 these days. Its good stuff.

The recoil on this ammo is less than Ball ammo but heavier than my reloads. I picked it up on an online auction. From what I have heard the opinions where that it is loaded hotter than Federal Match 185 grain swc (770 fps) but nobody had any specs. The real solution is to by a chrono
thanks

There is no such thing as "NATO spec" .45 ACP ammunition.
With that being said, at one time IMI did provide the U.S. military with .45 ACP 230gr Ball ammo.

Several years ago I bought 1000 pieces of once fired .45 IMI match brass. It is first rate.

In the late 1990's IMI made NATO 5.56 ammo with Winchester headstamps because Winchester could not keep up with demand. The practice was stopped in the early days of the war on terror because the powers that be decided we could not kill Jihadis with ammunition made by the Jewish state.

In several different guns IMI 185 SWCs always ran slightly SLOWER than
W-W 185 SWCs, but TZZ 230 Ball was always FASTER than US made Ball, along with noticeably more recoil.
A friend took a SIG 220 into a local 'smith that had a national reputation for some problem. When the 'smith asked him what ammo he was shooting he told the 'smith that it was TZZ. The 'smith told him to stay away from the stuff- it was too hot!
