Smile Winchester .380acp Ammo

Hi:
Purchased a 100 round box of Winchester 95 grain FMJ .380acp ammo
This ammo has a tapered bullet with a flat point.
Ammo will not feed though two different .380 pistols ??

Anyone experienced this problem ?

Thank you,
Jimmy

I shot a hundred round box of it through a Kel Tec P3AT...worked fine.

Edit: This was three or four years ago. Bullet was a flat-nosed FMJ
with curved ogive--basically ball, but with flat nose. Don't know what
configuration is like now.

Due to the sharp feed angle in some of the .380's, the flat nosed does not seem to feed as well as round nose. My preferred are in this order: HPR 100 gr TMJ's, Federal American Eagle 95 gr FMJ's, and Magtech (wt?) FMJ's. The HPR & Federal feed very well in 6 & 7 round mags. The Magtech feeds well in the 6 round mags but gives some problems in the extended 7 round mag in a Kahr P380, one of the smallest so maybe the sharpest feed angle .380's.

The hardball flat nose has always been a problem. My son-in-law trained with it in 9mm many years ago. Then they went to 40 caliber flat nose for practice. The Glocks handle it just fine. Older/classic autos, not so good. There is no way I would trust it in my carry gun for self defense. If you must carry hard ball, carry the round nose stuff. In the small pistols (25, 32, 380) hardball is often more effective than even the Speer GD (if you can find any). Round nose means the gun will cycle every time.

I bought a few boxes of the Winchester FP 95 gr FMJ and found it to
be less reliable than other brands of .380 with the traditional RN 95 gr
FMJ bullet. Also when I chronographed various brands I found the WIN
FPs to be around 50 fps slower than some other domestic brands. I
have no intention of buying any more.

I have found it works just fine in a BG380 and a Sig P238. I haven't shot any meat with it but my experience is that a flat nose will do more damage than a round nose. Larry

I've shot a few hundred rounds of that stuff through a Bersa and a pair of Taurus .380's and had no problem other than an occasional failure to fully chamber the first round on one of the Taurus guns, just had to slap the back of the slide. Subsequent rounds fed and fired fine.

I have shot a few hundred through my 1st generation LCP with no problems. It may be an individual gun thing.

I've used the Winchester 95gr. FMJs with the flattened nose with no problem in both my Colt 1908 and my PPK, however about every other magazine the last or next to last round will stovepipe in my PP, no matter the stance or grip. Magtech, PMC, and even Wolf cycle through it without issue, so seems to be partially dependent on the individual gun.

That's the .380 round I decided I would use for practice and carry. I have a very reliable Kel-Tec, and a Colt Gov't. I can't remember a hang up with that round.
OTOH, my mother's Kel-Tec will hang up on just about any shape bullet you feed it.
I would say it's the gun, not the bullet.
