Shooting old ammo?

Are there any safety issues with shooting ammo from the 1950's and 60'.

If it was stored properly it will last many lifetimes. I've shot a few rounds from the 1880's. Several rounds from pre-WW1. I've shot CMP Rifle competition matches using 1943 production .30-06.

I was given a bunch of '43 head stamped 30-06. FMJ, Tracer, and AP. Ran some through my M-70. Didn't clean it that day. Cleaned it the next day and it looked like I hadn't' done it in months. The old Mil stuff had corrosive primers. Pulled the bullets, popped the primers and reloaded. If you shoot it clean as soon as finished.

I shoot old ammo all the time - never any problems. Just shot some 150 grain 30-06 the other day and it was made by Lake City Arsenal in 1966. I routinely shoot Remington 148 grain .38 Special wad cutters made in the late 50' or early 60's that my Dad left me cases of. I also hunt with 12 gauge #5 & #6 Shot, Hi-Brass from Remington & Winchester - some of which are actually paper hulls (probably from the 50's or 60''s too) - never a problem.

As long as it was stored properly it should function as intended.
