A Funny .22 Ammunition ad
Thought you might get a chuckle from this. Copied from th Academy Sports on-line web-site concerning "Selecting the proper ammunition for your gun".
"A common caliber is .22 and is often followed by letters, such as .22 L and .22 S, which show that the bullets are designed to work with long-barrel and short-barrel rifles, respectively."
ROFLMAO!!!

So who do you expect to write the ads? A shooter, sportsman, or a big city advertising employee? Ever really read a car ad? The fertilizer is deep with this stuff.

It also seems....
It also seems that the wording is rather clumsy. Amateurish.

And .22 Hornet is only for shooting stinging insects, while .22 Jet is good against aircraft.

Remington CBee's are for hive hunting. Isn't it great to have the right ammo for the right purpose! But can I substitute if I don't have the right ammo?

HMR must be the ammo company's abbreviation for hummer, and that is ammo for use in the thin, lightweight barrels that vibrate rapidly and "hum" as bullets pass through them!
The people that wrote and approved that copy must be the future leaders of our country, this rivals "Uncle Joe's" suggestions on shotguns!
[The above was not a political statement, just shared for comparison.]

Well, obviously, you can't shoot long "rifle " in a revolver or pistol!

Question: Is .22 CB or BB safe to fire in any .22 rimfire firearm?
I hadn't thought of these for awhile and it could be fun in the basement on icy winter days.

I wouldn't fire it in rifles, some of those loadings won't even make it out of the bore. Revolvers and single shot pistols, sure.

You won't be laughing quite so hard when you pause to realize the person who wrote that gets to cast the same number of votes you do.
We have slumbered while the media has successfully portrayed everyone who owns a gun as some sort of homocidal maniac. Legions of people like this are being programmed every day. I know I married one. Her "epiphany" came when I had to talk her through assembling an old Charter Arms AR-7 over the phone.
The only way to dispel the myth is to show them that we're perfectly sane, totally approachable, welcoming, not the least bit condescending and eager to share our perspective.

I highly recommend an air pistol over a .22 for indoor use.
It's a whole lot of fun.
I got myself a low end, trainer grade, one pump, single shot, that is more accurate than I will ever be.
Make sure to put something in front of your pellet trap in case of bounce back.
Eye protection is absolutely mandatory.

I hope that ads author is the only one that has that interpretation of .22 nomenclature. I doubt that though. It will be interpreted as "I read it so it must be true".
Im just shaking my head on that one.
Just think about how many people believe that AR means assault rifle.

I expect a shooter to write the ads, or at least proofread them. It's the thought (if any) that counts, not the language. That's why I don't get all het up about grammar errors on this forum - I just don't give a ****.
Fortunately, I am not now in a position where I have to trust merchants to know their products, but I feel for some of the beginners who do. Sad.

They are for shooting bears. CB is for shooting Cub Bears, and BB is for shooting Big Bears.

For once I am not upset about a thread getting way off topic, It was actually improved on!
And, hdwhit, I am fully aware that they may vote, but not so sure that they actually do though. We certainly can hope not! The really frightening thing is they no doubt will reproduce and create more of their kind!!!!
The really sad part is this sort of thing is not so likely to be a result of genetics as it is the current lack of parenting and the great dearth of actual education in our current sadly mis-labeled "Educational System"!

This ad sounds to me like they let the new kid do it and it got into print without anybody checking it, which is all too common these days.

You left a couple parts out:
Before purchasing ammunition online, consider what type of ammunition will work with your existing rifle, shotgun, pistol or other firearm. The caliber of ammunition indicates the internal diameter of each bullet's barrel and is an easy way to determine whether a bullet will fit in your gun. A common caliber is .22 and is often followed by letters, such as .22 L and .22 S, which show that the bullets are designed to work with long-barrel and short-barrel rifles, respectively. By selecting appropriate rifle ammunition and other firearm ammunition, the incidence of jamming is greatly reduced.
To ensure a kill shot when hunting big game, like caribou or deer, choose hollow-tip ammunition, which has a hole in the center that allows the bullet to expand upon impact, optimizing internal damage. Bullets with a full metal jacket are perfect for shooting targets, since their casing lets them travel faster.
Ammunition is largely divided into 2 sections - rimfire ammunition and centerfire ammunition. When it comes to choosing between the 2, centerfire ammunition is generally the better, more versatile option, since centerfire bullets travel faster than rimfire bullets, feature bigger casings and hold more gun powder.

Oh, no. I have fired thousands of long rifles in my 4" barreled model 18. Is the barrel ruined? How about the cylinder? If I do manage to get it repaired wher can I get some SR (short revolver) ammo. My model 17s all have 6" barrels. What should I do about those? Maybe I should just haul them all to the metal recycling plant.
I am just sick about this.

I've shot both Remington's and CCI's CBs out of my Remington 581 and my Henry Godenboy with zero issues. It has a little more pop than an air gun, so I'd still wear ear plugs.
