Default K-22 22 cal Ammo question

I went to the range today. This is the only the second time I have fired this gun, a k-22 Combat Masterpiece 4 inch barrel. However, the first time I was using Federal Premium HV Match. This time I thought I would try some subsonic so I was shooting Eley Subsonic Hollow. Yes they do make a lot less noise. I shot 50 rounds. All but one (which I think was the anomaly) were low. All the rest were grouped but really low. I fired some from a bench rest to see if it was me or something else. So is it me or the ammo?

Shooting with Federal, bench rest

Shooting Bench rest Eley Subsonic.

You left out an important datum: the range from your gun to the target.
I am also interested in the weight of the bullet.

While high velocity rounds do tend to shoot flatter, they may print significantly lower than high velocity ammo, since the projectile will be dropping quicker as it leaves the barrel. It is not you, but the ammo that you chose.

Personally, when I shoot my K22, I use standard velocity lead ammo. I prefer to not put jacketed bullets through any of my K Masterpieces.

High velocity (HV) versus Low Velocity (Subsonic) will result in a change in impact in relationship to point of aim. So will heavier and lighter bullets make a difference. These factors result in a change in the recoil impulse of the gun, raising the barrel higher or not in comparison. I have also found that different brands of the basic same kind of ammo, especially in .22LR guns, have markedly different impact points as well as accuracy levels.

Silly me. It was me. Aiming too low. That is a 50 yard target which at 50 yards would be seen as a small black ball above the front sight. at 25 feet (1/6 of 50 yards) it is a huge black ball resting on my front sight. I am going back to the range with a slightly modified target. I covered the 10 ring and will use that ring only to sight on.

I can't belive I didn't realize it at the time. Oh well.

Here's the proof. Went to range and fired a few rounds with a modified target (smaller bull) Covered the 9 and ten ring and used that as aim point. It was freezing in that place and my hands were shaking but it still doesn't look to bad. same as before 25 feet, Eley Subsonic Hollow

For those who really want to know just how well their specific ammo groups and gun, there is only one good way to do it. Fire at least 5 ten-shot groups and calculate the average extreme spread.

I've never seen jacketed 22 lr ammo. Or are you calling the copper or brass washed lead bullets jacketed? Jackets are by comparison, thick. The plating or wash is thin and won't damage the barrel or rifling.

This was just a test to see if I was using the wrong aiming point, on the first shoot, and I was. As far as the spread goes, I'm not too concerned. It was so cold in there my hands were shaking and I shot only about 30 rounds (some were on another target) until I couldn't feel my hands, so I left. MY last 6, Federal HV match, were at another target and they grouped nicely around the center. About a 3 inch spread. They were inside the 8 ring.

Neither one of these bullets are jacketed.
Eley subsonic hollow
Federal HV match

When the weather warms up, I'll go back and shoot at 50 ft.

There actually was some jacketed bullet .22 LR. Used by the military for survival rifles, to comply with the Hague Convention restrictions concerning the prohibition of expanding bullets in armed conflict.

Without going into expensive target ammo, I have found my K22s did the
best with Win HV HPs. In 80s did extensive testing of Win, Rem, CCI, and
Federal 22 ammo. Used each brand in each type, including their Target
ammo. We also used the most popular 22 rifles and handguns, as well
as a few classics. We filled a notebook and it took all summer. It was a
surprise to see the difference, different guns definitely liked a particular
ammo. The worst performer in all guns tested was Win Wildcats.
