Default Does anyone remember Wanda?

No, not some girl you used to know but Wanda shotgun shells? I rediscovered these while looking for something else. They are see-thru but intended to be shot and reloaded. They were not in production for too long. I've never tried to fire any of them. Has anyone out there ever shot any?

I actually have 2 or 3 boxed of them. Picked them up someplace at least 25 years ago. I have always been hoping they would be something collectible to someone so have just held onto them. If anyone is a collector and wants to acquire some, get in touch and lets see what sort of barter we can work out.

I do. My dad, ever the enthusiastic bird hunter, had some of those years ago. He also reloaded and didn't use them for very long as they weren't suitable for his reloading tastes.

I used over the shot cards and filler wads from Wanda and Alcan for upland bird hunting loads.

The loads with Skeet or Improved Cylinder barrels were great on Adirondack Mountain Ruffed Grouse early in the season

Go to your room.

I hadn't thought about Wanda ammo for many years. A guy I hunted with once used them. I thought they were just a sales gimmick and stuck with Remington.

I shot some of them a loooong time ago. I don't remember them as much more than a novelty thing. Can't say they were any better or worse than any other ammo. I just don't recall.

The Wanda were pretty cool because of the see through feature and nice colors these , along with the Activ shells , were interesting because they didn't have a brass head. I bought one box of Wanda , shot about 15, and the box is in a drawer somewhere. Never saw any more for sale . Seems like the Wanda's weren't around for long but the Activ held on a while longer. Myself and my shooting buddies bought and shot many boxes of the Activ , they were readily available . I still have a lot of empties that I never got around to reloading.
Interesting development in shotshells.

I have one full box of Wanda factory 12 gauge in my collection, but never fired one. I had understood that many trap and skeet shooters didn't particularly like them because of the noise they made when empties hit concrete. Also they don't reload like conventional plastic or paper cases do. I can't see any particular advantage to the Wanda design, no idea what they cost vs. more traditional loads back in the day. Maybe price played a role in their market failure.

Shot some years ago, didn't reload shotgun shells at the time but was told they had a short case life. Have had a few rounds in my cartridge collection, dropped one on the table once and a segment of the mouth broke off. I suspect the plastic gets more brittle with age. They were, I believe, the first workable attempt at an all plastic shell. The later "Activ" brand shells were made out of a different plastic, more like that used in regular shot shells, and seem to have been more successful though they are also no longer in production.

I think they were produced around 1968 to 1969.

I fired a few of the red 12 ga and they cracked; a couple having head separations. The few 20 ga I had were green in color. Never seen the yellow before.
