Default Remingtn 165 grain .357 load

Some years back, Remington made a 165 grain JHP .357 load, mainly for hunting. The bullet was of different construction than their 158 grain ammo.

I think this may be a good defense load for bears in that caliber.

Has anyone here used that ammo, and on what, with what result?

Is this 165 grain ammo still made?
Thanks for any meaningful help that you can offer.

A 158gr is great for close deer here in Nevada........

My knees shake when I patrolled the cabin with a old Speer 160gr , Jacked lead FP at 1270fps, for Black Bear.

I feel better with a 200gr 30-06 at 2570fps.

The Federal PR man told me that their 158 grain Hydra-Shok performs very well on deer at average handgun ranges. I presume this is with a broadside shot into heart or lungs.

A frontal shot on an attacking bear might need more penetration. I want to pierce the skull for a brain shot.

In a .30-06, I think I'd feel comfortable with Federal's Premium load with Nosler's 180 grain Partition bullet. But you can't have a rifle at hand all the time.
