Default Ammo different diameter across brands?

First, I'm not a gunsmith, don't have the tools / calipers / reamers.

That said, has anyone noticed that the diameter of the same caliber bullets varies? Here's what I notice: I insert various bullets into the chamber throats of my Ruger Redhawk 41 mag.

All the Remington 210 JSP bullets enter all the throats easily. All the Winchester Platinum and Silver Tips enter all the throats easily. *Some* Spear Gold dot 210's fit into all of the throats, and some of these bullets are very tight on a few of the throats.

None of the Corbon 250 gr. hardcasts pass through the chamber throats.

How should I read this situation? Are some of the bullets out of spec or is the Ruger out of spec?

Thanks

Cast bullets should be 0.001"-0.002" larger than nominal to keep leading to a minimum.

SAAMI gives each cartridge a range of acceptable diameter for the bullet. Depending on quality control you may find different diameters in the same box.

If bullets had to be made to an exact size to "be in spec" they would cost $10 each. If your chambers are clean, slight variation in bullet fit is of little significance as long as they chamber and fire with acceptable accuracy.
SAAMI standards for ammunition and chambers allow variation for manufacturing tolerances. Nothing raises manufacturing costs like requiring extremely limited tolerances.

All ammo is like that. They will probably end even vary slightly in the same box.

Only thing I have ever noticed is that certain .45ACP inserts into moon clips easier than others.
