Default Factory 38-44 Equivalent - Buffalo Bore

This load has been out for awhile. Has anyone here ever shot and chrongraphed it against factory noted performance? Likes and dislikes?

According to Buffalo Bore performance data in actual revolvers, their Outdoorsman 38 Spl +P 158 gr SWC is truly a velocity equivalent to the old 38-44 loads?

Appreciate any inputs regarding this fine round before I go and purchase a box.

Thank you

I haven't chronographed any Buffalo Bore since about 2008. Is the "Outdoorsman .38 Sp. +P 158 gr. SWC" you make reference to something that has come out since then? If so, I'm not familiar with it.

In my notes, I have chronograph figures for the regular 158 gr. lead SWC HC +P. In a 6 1/2" Outdoorsman, muzzle velocity was 1220 fps; in a 638 snub nose, 1014 fps.

Did you experience bore leading at those velocities? How was accuracy?

I certainly should have included that information, though what I have is not complete. I averaged three, five-shot groups at the time, but now consider that inadequate. The Outdoorsman, probably my most accurate .38 revolver, averaged 3.25". I have no average listed on the 638 for some reason. The standard velocity Buffalo Bore 158 lead SWC HC, at 836 fps / 986 fps for the 638 and Outdoorsman, respectively, produced accuracy levels of 4.08" and 1.92".

I tried many +P loads in my testing; won't get into all that here, but I will mention that I also used the Winchester and Remington 158 lead SWC HP + P loads. Overall accuracy was slightly better, though not enough to matter, than the much hotter Buffalo Bore +P. Velocities of the Winchester and Remington +P loads were comparable to the Buffalo Bore standard velocity loads; in my opinion, plenty adequate for defense.

All of these lead loads from all makers produced some evidence of bore leading in my guns.
