Default Remington vintage .22 Jet ammo

What is the going rate for vintage ( 50's, 60's) Remington
22 Jet 40 gr. ammo in 50 round boxes? Are they hard to find
and in demand?

It is hard to find, and folks like it. PPU has now made new 22 Jet ammo and it is cheap. I think this has impacted the prices for the older Remington and Peters rounds, now that brass is available from PPU. I would check Gunbroker for an idea of what it might bring. For myself, I would not pay a premium for Remington.

Well, I went to look at what I thought was factory Remington
22 Jet, and most of it turned out to be reloads from the 1980's.
Each box had a small printed paper inside with the date loaded,
the powder and grains used, and the bullet weight. There were
12 full boxes like that. The seller wanted $10 a box for them.
I did manage to get 2 full boxes and a partial box of factory
Remington 22 Jet, and a full box of once fired 22 Jet brass.

I was wondering if buying all 12 boxes of reloads for $10 each
for the components would be a good deal? The brass used for
the reloads were Remington.

I sold a full box of Remington factory ammo on Gunbroker about a year ago for $115...and got almost that much for a set of 6 inserts. It is hard to come by.

If I had the gun, I would have bought all them for $10/box, no question about it. Would probably break down a few from each box to check that the loading data provided was correct.

I would be very suspect about firing anyone else's reloaded ammo, especially someone I did not know. The 22 Jet runs at a pretty high pressure, and the factory Remington rounds were right up there. Also they ask for .222 or .223 bullets, most nowadays are .224. That would raise the pressure even more.. I would inspect, break down, etc. before firing any of those. At $10 a box you did very well, the components if correct are worth more than that.

Some points to consider. If you mike the bullets and they turn out to be Hornady, yes, they're well worth the $10 a box. I'd just dump the powder in the flower beds or yard. Its so inexpensive there is no sense in taking a risk. I would use the primed cases and bullets. If the bullets are .224, I'd try to sell them to someone. Dave Keith has a die he made up to swage .224s down to .222. His grandson does it for a minor fee.

So if all you've got to do is add your own powder and reseat bullets, its a real bargain. Probably the seller got rid of his Jet and now just wants some return on the ammo.

On the Remington issue, If they really were 70s and 80s components I would try it. Back then they were making top shelf ammo.
