Rem 38 Spl +P 125 SJHP 1,150 fps???
Just purchased a 100 value pack of Remington's 38 Spl +P 125 SJHP with a listed velocity of 1,150 fps on the box.
There was no barrel length listed on the box. Probably longer factory unvented barrel velocity.
Thoughts?

Humm, 250 ft/Sec. difference; I can't run that fast.

This would probably be tested with a 4" barrel. Anything in the snub nose range for this round would be in the 850-900 range.

Interesting. All I could find was these links, all of which showed lower velocities, although the factory links stated a 4" vented test barrel was used.
Is this what you bought? Note the lower velocity listed.

This link is interesting simply because it lists a snub barrel length, although it's for the UD line, not the bulk/UMC. Remington

I would think those figures came from a barrel LONGR than a 6".
A 125 gr in my 686 6" did 1050 with a full load of 800-x
and heavy dose of Unique for a K frame did 1099fps.
The maximum load of HS6 only did 1037 fps.
1150fps might be streaching the facts a little for a standard weapon.

Good load. Maybe 1K FPS in a four inch barrel. Like it. Works well in my 66. In my 686 ... like shooting a BB gun. Highest velocity will always be from a unvented test barrel. In real world ... getting 1K FPS out of it will be good. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

^^^^what he said. VERY good load. Side-by-side with the W-W 125gr .38 JHP, this load has more oomph. Originally loaded in the late 60s/early 70s with a slow burning powder, the powder in today's round seems quicker burning. Be interesting to chrono this in 6". This load is becoming available in WM again after a long absence, at least here in the valley.

I bought a ton of this ammo a while back for all of my carry revolvers. Its really accurate, feels "warm" like a good plus P round should, and isn't too bad on price, either. I can't affirm how much velocity it carries out of a snubby, but I'm sure it compares to every other premium 38 plus P round out there to within the 850-950 feet per second range. That tends to be the norm for hot 38 spl defensive loads in short barrel guns.

Remington ammo has NEVER NEVER Chronographed anywhere near what they claim. They must be rating it out of a very long test barrel! Out of 2" barrel I doubt you'd even get 900 fps. Winchester is no better as far as their claims go.

When I recently bought a Model 60-3 3" barrel .38 Spl I wanted a factory defense load for it. Walmart had Winchester 125gr JHP +P on the shelf.
The box stated 945 fps muzzle velocity.
Today I chronographed it and and 158gr handloaded with Hornady`s LSWC.
The Winchester 125`s ran 935 fps.
!58 gr handloads ran 845 fps.
I was pleasantly surprised the Win came close to advertised velocity especially in a 3" .38.
