I'm no expert but some of those would be worth a few $'s: not retirement money, good dinner money.

I don't mean to rain on your parade but most of those boxes are not that 'old' - a couple of them might have had value if they were full and unopened but the real money is in pre 1900 ammo boxes that are intact and unopened. Hey give them away as 'reload' storage for your friends!

The Red Bone boxes are worth a bit. Old shotgun boxes are worth a bit more. The ones with pictures on them. Once had several around, sold them all for 35 bucks a piece. Worth more now.

It's not too surprising there isn't much interest. Many are not that old, and in common calibers. In another 100 years, they may be priceless.

List them on eBay. Lots of old ammo boxes there, and they seem to sell.

Well my thinking when i got them was not to get rich from them...but i was worried they would be just discarded....i know most are not very old...but if u are like me...i like to have boxes for ammo when i take pics and what not...some even have some empty brass on them too ...thank u all for the great feedback too....

One man's garbage is another man's treasure. Take the case of matchbooks. Once common as dirt, now quite rare. I know folks that still collect 'em. Others quit smoking and discarded their collections en-mass. I don't have any idea if the matchbooks or ammo boxes have any value. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is no intrinsic value only the value as historic artifacts or art.

Any price stickers on the boxes? That alone should bring a smile to one's face.

Must relate this story .While at a gunshow 1 of the new dealers was ecstatic because he found a box of special super collectable ammo.It WAS special cleaning ammo. you shoot it and it would clean your barrel when you were done for the day . YEP it was Remington CLEAN BORE . No body had the heart to set him straight.

Most of the boxes shown are too contemporary to have much collector interest. Even though I'm a cartridge collector, I don't specialize in box lots. There is considerable interest in 19th and early 20th century shot shell boxes which often had beautiful paintings on one side.

I love the Western and Frontier boxes because--im addicted to Western tv shows and movies. I have no clue what they are worth or how many you have? but if your willing to part with them-or one of each (Western/Frontier) ill be game. The .22 ammo Western box if interested in getting shed of? I dont have anything that fires a .44, but the box(es) would make a nice display.

On the vintage .22. I recently picked up a box of 50--vintage .box. Got it at a flea market for $4. I dont know what yours are worth? but the one I got was put out in the early 50s--and had a Robin Hood like character on the box-box was green and white.

I had a BUNCH of old Winchester and Remington for 348 Winchester. Everybody "said" they were worth a lot but no one wanted them when I posted an ad.

Mistered was correct...they are not old enough to be worth much. Biggest problem with this stuff is that when you find something that is old enough to be of interest, the condition is lousy. When something has been sitting in a barn or basement for decades with no special precautions for long term storage...it probably went to hell long before you found it:-)

Do you have a picture of your ammo box? All the one on the link I provided have the archer on the right side aiming right. This is part of what was in that link too:

"In 1915, the Remington Arms Company purchased the assets of Robin Hood. In January 1916, Remington merged Robin Hood in to its cartridge manufacturing operation, the Union Metallic Cartridge Company."

So, if I am reading it correctly (probably not), Robin Hood did not exist after 1916.

I dont have a photo of it or a way to post it. I forgot to write down the box info last night as I have a bad case of Flu. It does have an Archer on the top part of the box with bow pulled back ready to fire. Ill make a note to get the info and will post it here Monday before I go to work. Its a Robin Hood-like theme, but it isnt Robin Hood.

I have about 10 full boxes of .308 Western 180 gr SP bought in 1967. I see the empty boxes are selling on Ebay for $10-$20/ea. The ads say they have sold a lot of them. I'll have to see what they are worth filled with ammo since I sold my .308. I through away a bunch of the empty boxes after shooting the rounds. I never thought they would be collectible. When I inherited them, I also got a thousand rounds of .22 , a few hundred .30 cal carbine rounds made under the Universal Carbine brand, and some 12 ga rounds made by Montgomery Ward, all bought in 1967 after the Detroit riots.

"a few hundred .30 cal carbine rounds made under the Universal Carbine brand"

That's interesting. Never saw or heard of .30 Carbine ammunition under the Universal brand name. Of course Universal made carbines, no reason they couldn't have sold ammo under the same name.
