Which Departments used "38-44" Factory Ammo?
Do you know any Police departments who used 158 gr lead 38-44 factory type ammo (including 38 Spl Hi-Speed/Super Speed/Super X)?
I read somewhere that LAPD or CA Highway Patrol personnel used this round?
Any others to your knowledge?

I am assuming you mean the use of .38-44 ammo in any .38 Special revolver. I'd guess that many PDs (and individual cops) did. Back in the days when the .38/44 revolver was popular, there wasn't much political correctness in law enforcement, and if individual cops were allowed to carry more powerful ammo, they probably loaded up with .38-44, department issue or not. And many PDs and state agencies used the .38/44 Heavy Duty revolver. Not much point in that unless they also used .38-44 ammo. Which bullet? No idea. The .38-44 was factory loaded with both lead bullets and metal capped (not FMJ) bullets.

...it seems like just yesterday when you saw our Finest carrying their trusted 38 Special revolvers with belt loops filled with lead rounds. Can't find any NYPD carrying them anymore last time I was in town.
They probably would still be carrying them if the bad guys hadn't become "militarized" with their increased firepower. It says something about our decaying society, but that is a topic for another forum.
I've had a "love affair" with the 38 Special/357 Magnum for over 40 years, great all round cartridges.

My Dad carried a 6" Colt New Service tuned and w/King sights.....in .357....In the "Burbs of the Burgh".
He reloaded and I remember a lot of old boxes for Hi-Speed, Super Speed and Super X...... along with .357 boxes.

Was in Ocala a couple years ago and talked to a motorcycle cop that was carrying a 4" 686 as his service gun. Not sure if it was a 6 or 7 rounder.
