I had 2 boxes and decided to chronograph some. I am impressed. The 145 grain silver tip gave 1441 fps at 10 feet out of a 5" M-27.

I've seen tests where this load delivered 1200 FPS from a three-inch barrel, too. But it'd be pretty brisk to shoot in the smaller .357's. I wouldn't fire it in the light alloy ones.

Midway lowered the price again to $29.89 and free shipping for orders over $49. I just ordered another 2 boxes! I can't help myself lol.

Well dang it. I thought they would not go lower than the $36.00 price and free shipping from Midway. At 29.00 I better buy some more? I don't see this lasting forever!

Here’s what they did in gelatin, fired from a 4” M28. Penetration was over 16”, IIRC.




I was advised by a retired LEO who had been firearms instructor for a mid-size Dallas suburb during the revolvers heyday it was quite effective against two-legged vermin and Texas whitetails (which are sadly smaller than most Yankee whitetails.)

Well, if you are the type to put things off it's now to late to get the lower price on this ammo. It's back up to $50/box on Midway USA. Still good ammo but no longer under $30/box. Sorry for the bad news.

What I really can't believe is how long the ammo is staying available on this run from Winchester.

In one of my previous lives, The agency I worked for issued the Model 15 in 4". That was it. The Issue ammo at the time was the Winchester .38 Special Silver Tip. It shot very well for .38's. The only other option, was to purchase your OWN .357 and the City would provide the ammo. Yup...the 145 Silver Tips. After leaving that job, could not find it anywhere. Then at a local show, I spotted 4 boxes and the guy said he had 2 more to sell that was the old packaging. 16 bucks a box for the old boxes and 29 for the new. Needless to say, I left with 6 boxes of ammo. Still got them all. With the lack of available Silver Tips, over the years I have moved on to the Hornady XTP ammo both for ammo purchased and also load them in 158 grain over H110 powder. Quite accurate though maybe a little robust for the Model 19. The N frames eat them up though. The Silver Tip ammo is still listed on Whichester web site. As I recall, the Silver Tips slapped your hand pretty good through the 19 as well though.

It was our last revolver issue load... I still have the rest of my box. They didn't lack for power. They shot good in my M66-1 with the hard original Hogue Mongrip. SuperVels on the other hand shot fine in my M19 but when I switched to the SS M66, the SV's cratered the primers & tied the gun up.

Well, the drought has begun. Midway is now out of this run and I'm sure all the others will dry up soon or have already. Hopefully Winchester will do another run in 2 years like they have been doing. I bought 3 boxes this time when they dipped under $30.

If anyone wants then you better get them within the next week or 2 if you can find them. Like I said, Winchester does a special run only every 2 or so years and this run is running out lol.
