Default Quiet....Dooms day is near !!

Walking into Cabela's this morning and went over to the rimfire area.

I tripped over a Unicorn........
a whole pile of them.

Now I have to re-sight the rifle in to see if they are near the poa
of the 40 gr Quiet lead round nose ammo, at short range?

Hope this HP bullet performs better on the critters.
Saw how it did on gel.........5-6". Pest are 3" wide at best.
I have my fingers crossed.

I've been looking for the segmented round for several years now.

I still have the old Eley primed seg hollow point, made in Mexico. That durn thing will blow a small critter completely apart.

Would love a field report, to see if it really comes apart (good) in use, in handguns, and rifle.

If by chance you do find this ammo.........

Check the tips of the HP before shooting.
I dumped one box onto a towel to see how well quality control was.

The tips were either ok or filled with a waxy substance, that needed to be removed......... or not ?
How do I know.

Good shooting,

So thankful that I was an ammo hoarder before there was a need to be a hoarder. :-)

Ed, they work for me..They go pop, and the critter goes Ker-plunk.

My .177 air rifle makes more noise.

I use them in a Winchester 06 pump..There's been discussion if there's enough Umph, for ejection from a semi...So I can't attest to whether they will or not.

My shooting range has been as far as 60 or so yards, and I haven't noticed any need to re-sight.

The company states that they might not eject in auto rifles.

Both the lead RN and the copper wash segmented HP bullet......
will NOT eject from my Marlin automatic rifle.

So far, so good.
My first critter went down hard from the sitting position and stayed down for the count.
A clean pass through but with a brick wall stop behind it.

I have shot what are known as sub loads in many calibers over the decades. Many high power rifle calibers have sub caliber adaptors like a 30-06 chambered rifle shooting a 32 ACP sub caliber. None of these sub calibers hit poi, however they are close. Some may hit 2" low and 1 " to the right at 35 yards. I do not re-adjust for these loads. I simply write down where they hit and when I take this particular rifle to the field hunting I preview the notes on the adaptors. When elk hunting I often run into grouse that need to be in my frying pan so I use the quiet 32 ACP adaptor and pot a grouse or two remembering where to hold. The same can easily be done with the quiet 22 ammo. Sight in with your standard ammo then shoot the quiet ammo to see where it hits and adjust the hold not the sights. This should work well for the times you want to be quiet. I always carry a few CB long rounds when hunting with a 22. I have remembered where they hit and have done well shooting small critters without readjusting sights.

Took two ground squirrels within six minutes in the back yard
at a distance of 54 feet.

Both were DRT and never knew what hit them with a chest shot.

However there was a fragment off each bullet that flew off at a 45 degree angle
off of the asphalt or cinder block back stop that damaged my fence
that was 15 feet away.

Make sure you know what is behind your targets !!

I may go back to the lead round nose Quiet or the 29gr CCI longs
for a re-test to see if things might improve on those stray "Parts".
