Angry Can't Shoot Buckshot at the Range

Why is it impossible to find a range that allows shooters to use 410 shot in their Governors or any type of shotgun/buckshot combo for that matter? Very frustrating...Maryland.

Shotguns are "scatter guns" and probably damage to target
cables, etc. increases. Also at distances crossover to other
people's targets is more likely. That's my view.

Indoor range I'm guessing? I was told once if somebody is going to take out the target cables, it will be with a shotgun and some gauge of shot. About every indoor range here is slug only for shotgun.
The club I belong to is outdoors and the only ammo rule I can think of is no incendiary rounds for obvious reasons.

Put yourself in the range owner's position. A lot of indoor ranges ban shotguns period.

Slugs only at my home range.

It's bad enough fixing target stands etc as it is without that going on.

Interesting. I've done just that at our local indoor range. It also allows ANY caliber rifle and machine guns.

I shoot at an indoor range and you can only shoot slugs. No buck shot. I understand with some of the holes in I see down range you have to wonder what people are shooting at.

I believe it has to do with the fact that nothing ricochets like a round ball. Especially in an indoor range, I would not want to be around while someone was using buckshot.

The range I go to does not allow it either, however they do make an exception for 410 defensive rounds such as the Hornady triple defense that I load in my governor. He said it was ok because there are only 3 projectiles.

410 shot is expensive to shoot anyway and I'd not want to fire too much of it.

Even the outdoor range near me only allows slugs.

Refrigerator cardboard boxes and 12ga buckshot is definitely a lot of fun. I don't think they would allow refrigerator boxes either.

My range went very conservative after a round left the premises. Only wooden target stands and rubber mats which can get chewed up fast with shot. The bright side is they have a plate steel wall you smear grease onto with a paint roller to see how your shot patterns.

The Outdoor Club I am a member of allows shooting of anything at the 50 yard Range. The 200 yard Range is basically for Rifles and the Shotgun Range is only meant for Shooting #7.5, #8 and #9 shot while shooting Skeet and Trap. But the 50 yard "Pistol" range is where guys mostly shoot Buckshot at. UNFORTUNATELY, there are a few inconsiderate Morons that shoot the wooden target stands to smithereens! They do not have the brains or consideration to set up some Kraft Paper, Homasote, or other viable Shotgun Target that is disposable and continue to destroy Club Property.

If I were on the Board, I'd make it policy that if you want to shoot buckshot or Birdshot at the Pistol Range - BRING YOUR OWN Target Frames. No inherent damage to the Range itself, but the Bird Shot and Buck Shot is NOT friendly to wood. that is probably the reason.

I work at an indoor range and we only allow slugs due to the damage buckshot does to the ceiling, target holders, etc.

Unfortunately, inconsiderate morons belong to all clubs. We had to throw the State Police off ours after they started shooting skeet with 00 buck. The neighbors were not happy.

Our club does not allow and buckshot or shot loads on the rifle & pistol range. (Skeet,Trap & SC is 7.5, 8, 9 shot. nothing larger.)

People just cannot help themselves from splintering the target stand uprights in half and otherwise shooting the stands to toothpicks on the rifle& pistol ranges.
The cables for the crank out targets on the pistol side have become targets as well as the target carriers. This may just be due to the pattern and not as much intentional. But the damage is there and someone has to repair it.

There is not an endless supply of target stands. Someone makes those up on volunteer 'work days' as well as having to continuously repair the cable and carrier systems on the pistol range.
I highly doubt the run 'n gun buckshot ninja jockys show up in that small group every 6 weeks or so to help.
It gets frustrating after a while..

The only rules at the range I go to are no steel shot and the gun has to be shouldered - no shooting from the hip. Bird shot, buck shot, and slugs are all okay.

Local commercial indoor range prohibits shotguns. "Wad/shotcup damage" was the reason given. Joe

Pellets will ricochet, especially off of concrete walls and floors.
