Remington HTP 180 gr 357
Found some on clearance for $19/50. Thought I would try some. Can I get much use out of a 4inch mod 13 or should I go to my
6 inch Ruger security six. Also have a newish 357 Rossi carbine, will it be a good performer out of a long barrel?

Htp is a very poor expander and I would treat it like fmj

$19/50 rounds of HTP is cheap, I'd grab a few boxes.

I would try them in all three...............
Never know when they might be "THE" bullet for accuracy in a weapon.
A picture of those targets would be nice...........

I think of that as a specialty round for bear or other large animals that may attack. But it'd probably drop a deer quite well at average handgun ranges, esp. from the carbine.

What???
I think you are getting things confused. The autoloading Remington JHP ammo may be somewhat expansion challenged, but the .357 loadings have a great track record for expansion.

I don't care for 180gr .357 Magnum ammo in a handgun but from a carbine it really shines. I get some amazing velocities from my levergun and good accuracy too.
The heavier bullets really shine from the longer barrel.

The "HTP" stands for "Hindrance To Performance", at least in the .38 special HTP loads. Remington effectively ruined their 158 grain LSWCHP "+P" load in that caliber. It appears they shaved about 150 FPS off the velocity when they re-introduced this load for the HTP line.

Good price...I would try them at least...you'll also have some good brass leftover for reloading. The 180 grainers excel in longer tubes as in an 18-20 inch lever carbine. Be prepared to make sight adjustments for the heavier bullet in your revolver.

I have seen several threads to the contrary. The old and the new were sent over a chronograph from the same handgun and little to no difference in velocity was seen. Sure in the 70's the velocity was rated @950 fps but the current and most current are both rated @890fps like they have been for at least 25 years.
By your count the bullet is doing only 740 fps but that's not true.
