Default S&W Brand 22 LR Ammunition

Just an inquiry for general info:

I've got about 2 cases of 22 LR ammo branded and boxed in "S&W" marked boxes. One case is standard velocity and the other is high velocity. These were given to me decades ago.

When did S&W begin marketing 22 ammo under its own brand/label, and when did S&W stop doing so, if anyone knows?

Not sure if these things have any collector value, but I shot a box last week, and it performs well and was clean burning...

Thanks for any info!

I've got a couple of boxes in my collection purchased at a gun show a few years ago. Fine print says "Made in Mexico"; so most likely made by Aquila. Headstamp'd "S" (rather than "SW") and packaged head-to-toe, old-style in cardboard trays. I don't know when it was manufactured, but suspect probably the 70's. IMHO it is collectable, especially now that 22 ammo has become available. -S2

Thanks, Speedo2 -

These rounds are in cardboard boxes and packed up and down, as you've described. Although the boxes are marked "S&W", the case headstamp is "S".

The cases are also nickel. The box clearly states "Made in Mexico".

Appreciate the info...

Smith & Wesson sold them during the Bangor Punta era. They were from the Rock Creek, Ohio plant. They were all manufactured in Mexico. They are collectible. Depends on who is selling them, they can sell for anywhere from $20.00 to $40.00 a box of 50.

The S&W brand ammo was made and sold around 1971-81. The .22 ammo was made by Aguila of Mexico and came in standard and high velocity and in .22LR and .22 Short, along with two different blanks, one for indoors and other was outdoors/extra loud IIRC.

Your .22 ammo is collectable and would be worth holding onto or to sell it off as collectable ammo.
