First, I really like Buffalo Bore and Underwood heavy duty 158 gr SWC 38 Spl +P ammo, but contrary to what these manufacturors describe these, they are not Keith bullets.

It would be great to see them load the one and only Keith type bullet in 38/357 - Mold 358429 - in these loadings. Only then could they claim to be Keith bullets.

^^^ I don't think it would make any appreciable difference in the ammo's effectiveness. AKA a difference with no significance.

Effectiveness is relative, you're right

I will load nothing less than a Gin-U-Wine Elmer Projectile.
Actually, when I used to cast bullets that is exactly what I made.

Somebody was looking for a coated Keith bullet and after searching far and wide, we couldn't find it anywhere. I thought it would have been a snap.

Now nobody really knows exactly what compromises a 'Keith' bullet but there are some characteristics:

Three SQUARE driving bands, (no u-grooves)

A meplat about 70% of the barrel diameter.

A double radius ogive

A bevel crimp groove

Most of what we saw had two driving bands and some had u-shaped grooves.

I have raised this issue several times on other forums. I've got at least 20 different Keith style bullets. The Keith style bullets have had the largest groups of any type I use. I can make most other designs to hit within an inch group at 25 yards. The Keiths are all closer to 2 1/2".

I'm kind of an Elmer fan, but I haven't been able to get what I want from current production of his "designs".

Prescut

Most of the molds I've seen from the past 50 years have the u shaped groove, not the 90* cuts on the originals. Not sure it matters, but Elmer would roll over in his grave if he saw the u shaped grooves.

Just sneaked a peek at Sixguns by Elmer.
He shows a picture of 20 different bullets which He says are Keith Bullets.

Pilgrim...I miss that book. They had an original version back in a southwest Connecticut public library. I really enjoyed browsing Keith's book until it mysteriously disappeared along with other gun books from the shelves...says something about people...who are the intolerant ones? I'll save my political rant for another forum.

Just for the record- I have been in most states except for several in the NE.
Conn is one of those states I've never been to!
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Your not missing anything, except for Whitetail deer hunting which is pretty good - people have become pretty intolerant there though, being a life long Conservative, I no longer fit in and have since left (fled)!
