Default S&W headstamp 30-06 Springfield Ammunition

I got a quantity of 30-06 soft point ammo with S&W head stamp.

On the base it says: S&W with two dots on either side and below on the bottom of the base it says 30-06 Sprg.

Nice clean ammo. Looks like a 150 gr Spitzer with a cannelure.

Is this factory ammo?

Thanks.

It could be either.
S&W sold ammo from 1979-81. The rifle ammo was made in Canada. Handgun calibers was made in the US using cases made by various manufacturers. I believe the SGN ammo was made in the US. The .22LR, .22Short and .22 blanks we made by Aguila of Mexico.

Smith marketed rifle ammo in many of the common rifle calibers (I remember 10 round blister packs) Pistol ammo was 50 round boxes and shotgun ammo was in 25 round boxes. (Browning also marketed ammo at about the same time) Trying to be all things to the sporting goods world. Ammo was OK, cases good. I still have some pistol ammo and some rifle and pistol cases that get rotated through the reloading cycle. If you still have the original packaging it has a limited collector's market(you won't get rich but it will sell to people who collect that kind of stuff.) There is some info in the SWSCs (I have #2 in the computer room and it has a couple of paragraphs and a picture) HTH

S&W sold a line of ammo in several calibers under their name, and I have a carton of .22 LR and several boxes of .38 Special and .357. I am not sure, but I think that it was made by someone other than S&W, just sold under the S&W brand. It does not say anything on the box indicating who made it.
