Default Underwood ammo with Lehigh bullets

Asking my fellow brethren for advice on this ammo.
Since the bullet weights are light to medium what is the best bullet weight for these calibers:
1) .380
2) 9mm
3) 38 Spcl

I am thinking as heavy as offered but the muzzle energy seems to favor the lighter bullets with higher velocities.
Or is this just a gimmick type of ammo?

thanks...

Bullet weight is a personal decision based on your perceived needs and the gun you are shooting. Pick one.

I have shot quite a bit of Underwood ammo and have no problems. It's high quality stuff but some their ammo is quite stiff in recoil. Priced right though.

FLA Sun, I decided to go with .380 Underwood Xtreme Penetrator with the 90 grain Lehigh bullet for my new Kimber Micro 380. I was very convinced by a couple of videos of test ammo, and chose the Underwood because it's loaded hot. The ammo feeds well and to me was the hands-down best choice. The 65 grain Xtreme Defender Lehigh bullet just seemed to me to be choosing too light of a projectile when I already was accounting for the smaller 380 gun for pocket carry.

I don't think it's gimmick ammo at all. I wouldn't be carrying it every day if I thought it was. Give it a try; you'll like it, I think. Red River Reloading and Outdoors is where I order mine from.

Default Underwood Ammo

I have shot several thousand rounds of Underwood Ammo in 44 Special , 44 mag, 10 mm , 38 & 357 mag. All were very satisfactory and reasonably priced . No issues.

Any real in-depth study will reveal that Kinetic Energy has almost nothing to do with wounding effectiveness (it is about the conservation of heat energy and converts directly to calories or BTUs).

I like the folks at Underwood and have shot a bit of their ammo - it seems well made and usually meets their advertised velocity.

I'm not big on gimmicks however, nor light weight bullets for anything but shooting varmints in the 10 lb range. That said, these do not expand and probably do not tumble so they should have adequate penetration.

The flutes don't impress me - a handgun bullet might be rotating at high RPM but it only rotates about 1 time in the human body (it will rotate almost exactly what the barrel twist is).

The flutes might help it penetrate though since it reduces the area of the Meplat - which also probably decreases the amount of tissue destroyed.

Still, just a thought, I have not shot anything that bleeds with them - I may give that a try someday when I run out of other things to experiment with.
