Water Jug Assassinations
I know it is not scientific but it sure is fun on a 90 degree Mississippi day. I usually try out a hollow point in whatever revolver went to the range with me on that day. I lined up six water jugs and tried out a Federal 357 180 Grain SJHP. It put a dent in the back of the 4th jug and expanded well. I had some jugs left so I lined them up and loaded a Remington 38 FBI load in the same 686. It busted the back of the 4th jug then fell back. It too expanded well. I was surprised that the old FBI load held its own against the Federal 357 round.

Just because it is old technology doesn't mean it won't work today.

I love shooting water jugs! Like you said, it's not super-scientific FBI jello...but I get them for free and they are fun to blow up.
I test any ammo brand I may carry in gallon water jugs. I don't really have any specific performance levels I'm looking for. But if a round won't expand in water it probably won't expand in something trying to hurt me.
I've tested both those rounds you did....also in a 4" 686...not surprisingly got identical results

Like a lot of folks, that 158gr, LSWC-HP, is a favorite load of mine. Thanks for posting these results.

Like shooting water jugs w/ just about anything! The bigger and faster the round... the better the results! Do pay attention to the wind. If you are standing down wind, you will get a little wet if you are closer than say 7-10 yds.
Now, a word to the wise. If you are ever aching to try out some hot shot .45 JHP's ... and you happen to have some small water melons handy ... and one of those water melon's just happens to be sitting on top of a post about 7 yards away ... and your wife and children are standing way way back watching to see what happens ... remember to check what direction the wind is blowing ... or at least have a umbrella! Melon juice and seeds are not a fashion statement! JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

I have a term for shooting water jugs with a rifle.......
....but it would be considered in poor taste, however, it is reminiscent of Nov. 22nd, 1963.
