Default Ammo for M frames?

I've been looking at M frame revolvers and was warned in the Standard catalog of S&W that "modern" ammunition should not be used in these pistols. That said, I really like to , at least occasionally, shoot what I own. So is there any manufacturer of 22 S&W long (not LR) that is safe to shoot in these little pistols?

Aguila makes powderless .22 LR ammo, if that will chamber I can't see how it would damage the gun.

You can get .22 Long from CCI and .22 Short from CCI, Remington, Aguila, and maybe a couple Euro companies.

That said, I've never shot any of the above through an M frame S&W.

I believe the problem with the M frame Smith is the very delicate forcing cone, they have a tendency to crack. you can turn your M-frame into a parts gun by shooting it. There is a reason Smith quit producing them.

I have shot mine with CB Caps and saw no negative effects. I doubt I'd shoot more than a box thru it though. They will chamber a 22 long rifle, but don't do it.

CCI 22 CB Shorts and 22 CB Longs are fine with my Ladysmith. For me, they are found at gun shows. Any time I find a box of 100, I buy them, since I also like to shoot my Model 1s. Have been shooting is for years without incident. Of course, as with any vintage revolver, you can break a part and they are hard to find. Most likely replacement parts would have to be made and not bought.
