Default What Caliber/Gauge is it?

This belonged to my deceased BIL, a certifiable gun nut, and all around good guy.

This is what I know: 1.580 O/L, .402 rim diameter, .348 dia of the brass, not the rim, .320 approximate dia of paper.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Very interesting. I do not have a clue, but will be watching to find out. Probably filled with unstable black powder. Interesting post!

It is a 9mm shotshell made for the Winchester 36 (?) "Garden Gun."

Garden guns were/are popular in Europe. The Winchester version did not fare so well in the States.

Yep, 9mm rimfired shotshell. They were popular in pre-war France by farmers to shoot pigeons and other pests out of their barns without disturbing the livestock and neighbors too much because of their low muzzle blast.

Got a box in an estate sale in the early 1980's.

Now you have to find the gun that went with it.

Fiocchi Specialty Ammo 9mm Rimfire (Flobert) #7-1/2 Shot - MPN: 9FLS75

Here's a photo of the Winchester M-36 single shot bolt action on 9mm RF Flobert along with their commercial ammo. The gun was made from 1920-1927. I've seen asking prices as high as $1,600-$2,400 on line.

P.S. Sorry for some unknown reason the gun photo would not upload...

I have a Webley 9mm shotgun that is very handy for dispatching nuisance varmints with the available Fiocchi loadings.

Thanks for the information and the photo! I knew someone had the answer. My BIL had one of the guns at one time, don't know what became of it.

Have a blessed day,

Leon
