Default Current State of 7.62 NATO Surplus?

Finally got my DSA 58 recently to fill out my Cold War collection, now I'm getting back into shooting my battle rifles more often. Been really tempted to get a case of some sort of current cheap 7.62mm NATO, but I always worry about what some of it might be like. Has there been any complaints lately about any of the current cheap deals, Malaysian, how is the remaining stock of Austrian ammunition, have they burnt through the "good stuff" out of those stockpiles yet? I tend to save money by buying big so I would prefer to test the water before jumping in.

The Malaysian in sealed cans being marketed now looks like it was made yesterday. Some of the Hirt is in really good shape also, esp the Berdan primed stuff. You can get Malaysian now for around 42 cents shipped.

+1 for the Mal 7.62 that's currently on the market. Good clean ammo and the sealed ammo cans "whoosh" when opened.

Get some while you can.

When that runs out, I've had good luck with the white box bulk Prvi/PPU 7.62.

Have some MEN German made 7.62 and some South African 7.62. haven't got around to trying out the Hirtenberger Patronen 7.62 but according to what I read the 3 battle packs I have were boxer primed. Don't know if the Malaysian is boxer primed or berdan. Funny tidbit, boxer priming was an English design and berdan was a American design. the U.S. stuck with the boxer priming for reloading the spent military cartridge cases. The British ended up with the Berdan priming system as well as a lot of foreign countries. Frank

Bought a couple of SA battle packs back at the end of May. Like I needed them but the price was right at 50 bucks each. Sold one 10 minutes later for 80 so I have 20 bucks in the remaining. Is it Berdan or Boxer?? I also had someone give me a 150 rounds of German I think. It is in stripper clips and the bullets are silver colored. I'd have to go hunt it down. On another note I just had a fellow offer me a box of foil wrapped Rem Arms military 22 hornet and he said he thinks he has some (Win) aluminum cased 410 military ammo in all his stash. He also has a box of the Hornet by Winchester but doesn't want to sell it. It is truly amazing how much surplus stuff is still out there. About 10 years ago the same fellow gave me some FA(I think) 1909 30-06. Some had neck cracks but he had shot 25 or 30 and every one fired..every one also cracked in the neck area too. I happened to have a brass extracting tool I had to use to get the broken neck out of his ol 1903. He gave me some surplus 30 carbine in bandoliers to shoot in my Ruger BH 30 carb. That darn thing is LOUD!
