My wife uses a Ruger SR22 for SD. It's loaded with CCI Mini Mags. She has been trained to hold center mass and keep pulling the trigger until the threat stops. Thank God she has never had to deploy it in a deadly force situation, however I am confident in her ability to defend herself.

I'm inclined to agree with the others who suggested penetration over expansion as I don't expect you'll get both. Heaviest and fastest you can find. For SD use someone should come out with a solid bronze .22lr and then just concentrate on head/face shots.

I use Yellow Jackets alternating with Vipers. Both are hyper velocity. One advantage of the 22lr is that you can stuff lots of rounds into the cylinder. Thus a hollow point/solid mix works for me. Best of both worlds

I like CCI in general.
For Stingers, BE SURE they are ok for your pistol. I've had some pistols and rifles that they were actually too long a case, and didn't fire reliably. Ask CS for your pistol manufacturer.
That said, Stingers seem better quality when they apply.
My biggest issues with 22 are failure to fire. Rotate the bullet, try again, it works, but that is not tolerable in a SD situation.

If the only revolver you had was a snub 22, what would you want to trust to do the best job for you. Please include the weight & type of bullet you'd use. Remember, this is for your wife/GF/sister etc. All answers are welcome.

I WOULD RELY ON THE CCI 4O GR, SOLID, COPPER GILDED, MINI-MAG ROUND. ITS MY .22 LR AMMO OF CHOICE EXCLUSIVELY, AFTER 60 YEARS OF SHOOTING.....
I HAVE SHOT MANY THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS THROUGH A VARIETY OF PISTOLS, REVOLVERS AND RIFLES. I COULD COUNT THE FTF INCIDENTS AS 2 OR 3 AT MOST. THAT'S AN EXTRAORDINARY RECORD FOR A .22 RIMFIRE.....
THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE TO SHOOTING HOLLOW POINTS OUT OF SUCH A SHORT BARREL. THEY WILL NOT EXPAND. THE 40 GRAIN SOLID WILL PENETRATE DEEP ENOUGH TO HIT VITALS, RETAINING ITS WEIGHT. IT IS CAPABLE OF SHATTERING ALL BUT THE HEAVIEST OF BONES....
A WELL PLACED CYLINDER OF THEM, WILL TERMINATE A THREAT......

I had a Beretta 21 that wouldn't run Stingers for this reason. The Mini-Mag cases were shorter and ran great.

I shot CCI Standard velocity for years in competition. A few thousand rounds without FTF. Other brands not so reliable. Even so that’s why I would either carry a S&W 351 in 22Mag (7 shots) or a 317 (8 shot)
I heard “If you have to shoot with a .22, don’t shoot once and see what happens, keep shooting till the threat is stopped” I’d keep that in mind when practicing.
