These rounds you can get at Walmart.
Would you consider them a light magnum, medium, or hot?
I'll new to .44 magnum and have been shooting these in a 629 and find comfortable to shoot. But all I hear is how bad the .44 kicks.
I'm wondering if these are wimpy rounds, they are accurate and hit hard. But dont kick that much.

Does the box say anything about muzzle velocity? It would not surprise me to discover that Walmart had it's own variant. They do it with so many other products to sell at a lower price point.

Yes, muzzle has 1230 fps and 805 ft lbs
50 yards is 1120 fps and 664 ft lbs

I think most of the public makes much to do about nothing with gun recoil. It is a gun for Pete's sake it is supposed to recoil. I usually find any commercial ammo with jhp projectiles hot. 44 mag was top of the heap and seen many posts of guys saying they switch out to rubber grips for 44 mag. I have nice wood target grips on everything and will never put on rubber grips for shooting. Try some PPU or Fiochi ammo with jacketed bullets they tend to load hot. I reload myself so I can have best of both worlds. Good luch and enjoy

Well, Hodgdon lists a max load of H110 behind a 240 grain bullet as 1,522 fps at the muzzle so I'd say the Federal may be a bit watered down. Obviously, we don't know the specifics of each test barrel, but 300 fps is a pretty big gap.

At 1,200 plus it will kick but probably not enough for a real recoil junkie. A critter would not likely notice the difference between 1,200 and 1,500. YMMV.

I know it shoots well in my 629, and picked up my marlin 1894 today and shot 1/2 a box through it and accuracy was good. It's also about the best price I can find for .44 mag.

Good price, plus it shoots well in both your revolver and rifle. Plus is has plenty of power. Sounds like a dream fit to me!

1500 is a pretty good clip. I'd look at the Underwood or Buffalo Bore ammo if you're looking for hard hitting ammo. I've been casting and reloading so long I haven't bought a box of factory 44mag in decades.

The Federal you'e shooting is certainly enough for deer.

Federal's 240 grain JHP 44 Magnum ammo is not hot, nor is it mild, it is within SAMMI specifications for the 44 Magnum. When comparing published velocities, whether it be factor ammo or from a reloading manual, it is very important to know how those velocities were measured. Barrel length makes a big difference as does whether the ammo was tested in a test barrel or in an actual handgun. The distance from the muzzle at which the chronograph was placed will also affect the recorded velocity.

So, Federal's 240 grain magnum ammo is factory spec, it is not as hot as some specialty loader's ammo and not as hot as what someone can load on their own. It is ammo that is safe in any firearm chambered in 44 Magnum.
