Default .357 SWC

I came across a few rounds of Remington .357 158 grain SWCs in my old MTM ammo box yesterday. I have not seen these around in while. All the major ammo companies used to make these but it seems now just Remington makes them.

I suppose they are pretty obsolete now, with hollow points being more approiate as a defensive round. I would think they would make a decent hunting round or a good round for woods carry.

Either way, I kind of like them for nostalgia's sake. They have wonderful old-school look to them that just seems to go with S&W blue revolvers and wood grips.

I can't find the Remington any longer as well. All I see are reloads in the 357 SWC search.

I have some Underwood .357 with 258 Gold Dot bullets loaded to 1500fps. This is modern day eqivatent to the original 1935 load that was then thought to be useful for shooting at Owlhoot bank robbers in cars.

I have no way of knowing anything about the efficasy of that. It does go off like a six inch cruiser even with low flash powder. It is totally manageable with the S&W 27-2 I have. The gun has a 8 3/8 inch barrel; it is the only .357 magnum revolver I have. I put the gun and the ammunition back in the safe since I have no reason to shoot at cars with people in them.

Regards, Porkie

Sweet.
Save them to look at, since they are old timers and sort of rare.

I missed it when Speer stopped making the 146 and 160 semi-jacket
357 bullets, that filled a nice gap in loadings.

Lots of the old loads have passed on now, with the "New style" of loads coming out that
people are brain washed to believe, are a much better ammo for the jobs at hand.

I have a few special things saved over the years that are dear to me but
probably don't mean a thing to others.

Enjoy.

I load lots of 158 SWC,,, but I am actually liking the 180 flat noses. For full power loads its just a different recoil impulse, more of a shove than a crack.

Those factory SWC loads had soft bullets that excessively leaded barrels.
