Glock 20 would be the cheapest and will get the job done.....plus nobody cries much if their glock is stolen.

Revolvers will be more reliable, in general, though a Glock 10 mm should be close to a revolver in reliability.

The beauty of 10 mm is that you have options in revolvers and semiautomatic pistols: Ruger Super Redhawk, Coonan 1911, Sig P220, Glock 20/40, etc.

Recoil should be less for 10 mm and better for follow up shots.

It will be more than capable for deer.

The 44 Magnum is a primarily revolver cartridge and there’s a lot of different options, in Smith and Ruger. For semiautomatic, I have a Desert Eagle, 44 Magnum.

I have several 44 Magnums. Recoil to me, is not bad but I am used to Magnums up to 500.

They will be heavier in weight than a 10 mm. No Glock or Sig Option that I know of.

I stock many calibers and reload for all Magnums. I don’t like reloading for semiautomatics as much, but I do 357 Magnum for a Coonan and subsonic 9 mm for my pistols.

If given the choose, I prefer 44 Magnum due to versatility of cast lead for hunting deer or bear protection, FMJ for target and JHP for defense. Plus you can go with 44 Special.

I have never investigated options for 10 mm but I’m sure it will have a variety of applications for revolvers, as cycling a slide is not an issue.

You do not mention the range that you will be hunting deer at, nor do you mention if you plan on hand loading for this firearm or will be relying on Factory produced ammunition. You also fail to mention where these deer are? Here in Florida the deer are about the size of large dogs, buy way North they grow bigger.

If you are not a hand loader, I would go with the 44 Magnum. There are lots more 44 mag ammunition offerings that are tailored to hunting than 10MM Auto hunting offerings

If you hand load, 10MM Auto is not a bad choice.

BTW, I am not a GLOCK fan either.I will carry one if issued, but I will not buy one. I don't hate them, I just do not like them. I even gave my free GLOCK back to GLOCK

For hunting with the 10MM Auto cartridge I would recommend the longer barreled firearms

Though if you like revolvers, the S&W 610 offers some interesting advantages. I would stick with the 5" or 6 1/2"

I have opened up the chambers on all of my 610s to accept the 10MM Magnum cartridge. Only a couple of the smaller boutique ammunition houses produce 10MM Magnum

The 10MM Magnum will allow you to safely push most any projectile 200-400FPS faster than if it were loaded as a 10MM Auto. Now we are in 41 Magnum territory

Since Smith and Wesson revolvers chambered for rimless cartridges (except the 547) all head space on the moon clip, the 310/610 family of revolvers can still chamber and fire the 10MM Auto cartridge along with the 40S&W cartridge

A S&W 610 might be the way to go but, as noted above, if you don't reload 10mm is harder to get a good ammo variety than .44 magnum. The deer will be just as dead either way if you do your job.

I looked hard at the 10mm glock, and just about had myself sold on getting one,.....until I walked over to the ammo rack to see how much ammo cost to feed one.
Not one single box of 10mm on the shelf. Checked around Tampa Bay area and found that it was hard to find.
Even on line, choices are slim, cost is high.
Went the 44 mag direction instead.
I'll wait to see if the caliber lives or dies before buying anything chambered in it.

44 magnum revolver. More versatile , can shoot everything from light 44 special loads to extremely heavy 44 magnum hunting loads.
10 mm semi-auto does not have that capability.

Good choice Ribwizzard...you will like it.

Groo here
If you like 10mm but want a revolver look at the NEW Ruger
Gp100 Match or the 3in fixed shot verson.....
Also S&B can be had online for <15.00 a box of 50 [they are not 40spec and the brass is reloadable.

I have several Smith .44 mags. I love the 44. I also have several Glocks. I don't love Glocks........except my Glock model 40 MOS. Darn, that thing shoots nice. Even with my ****** eyes the red dot turns it into a tack driver. With hot loads it's still a breeze to shoot. I'd shoot one before I'd rule it out.

If you reload the 44 has the major advantage of being able to easily find your brass. That can be important.

I can't tell you what to buy. How you plan to carry it in the vehicle can play a big part. For a car gun, a Glock 20 probably makes the most sense due to cost and capacity. If neither cost or capacity is a big issue then a Smith 69 may well make sense and they can be found cheaper than a new 629.

For hunting a 6" 44 or a Glock 40 or even a full size 1911. For just range work it's more of a whatever floats your boat and fits your wallet thing. There's a pretty wide choice out there.

I am looking at Ruger's new 100 revolver but, for a vehicle, 10mm or 44 Magnum is too much gun. I don't like Glocks, either, by the way, but that's a whole nuthuh smoke for a different thread. Either round will work for hunting deer, you can target shoot with any caliber but I can tell you that the 44 Magnum will ear you out, just IMHO, I dumped mine and won't have another. Not everyone loves the .44 Magnum. But you pop .44 Specials in there at 246 grains, LRN, NOW you have a defensive load that's worthwhile in a vehicle. YMMV

A warm 10MM is supposed to be the equivalent of a 41 Mag-if that helps.

That is a common mis-quote from John Taffin that keeps getting repeated

The actual quote from the article (decades ago) is "Anything the .41 Magnum can do, the 10 Magnum can also do and perhaps do it even a little faster and a little better," John Taffin

When folks talked about it back then, they just said 10MM, forgetting to tell us the rest of the name and thus an Urban Legend is born

I just went to ammoseek.. 10mm factory brand ammo prices starting at $.27 per round the 44Mag factory ammo starting at $.48 per round, so your logic is lost with me.

I have always put the 10mm in line with the .357 Magnum,
.44 Magnum is more powerful than both.

Rock Island makes a 10mm Commander...

But I'm a 44 mag guy. Its such a flexible gun, and you cant beat revolver reliability.

Lately my CCW has been my 4" M29, which is just an amazing gun.

IMO, it really comes down to personal fit of gun to hand. Th e.44 Mag has a significantly greater range of choices of ammo, although the 1

Well I like the power of a 44Mag and my Mountain Gun and an extra 6 rounds go hiking in the forest with me.

But when I go to the big city I take my EAA Witness 10mm with 3 14 round magazines.

Depends on the animals you'll encounter..

Another plus for revolvers is they don't leave all that pesky evidence laying around.

I love my Glock G40, I wouldn't soon get rid of it BUT I hate chasing brass around. Every 50 I shoot, no matter how hard I try, I always lose a piece or 2. When you load your own and you have OCD it's very tough to deal with

That and the fact 95+% of Factory 10mm is loaded about 65fps more than a .40Cal should do it... If you hand load or shoot Underwood or Buffalo Bore then that is a different story.

That said, the hottest and nastiest 10mm is weak to Luke-Warm .44Mag sauce. If you are hunting, the .44Mag is going to offer you many more Factory loads. If you are rolling your own then choose what you want. I'll always choose .44Mag in an "N" frame for dealing with BS in the woods; for the street then I still choose a 3" "N" frame in .44Special with Gold Dots. YMMV.

Dude, your "Big-City" must grow-em bigger than mine does, Atlanta! I admire your dedication, no joking/kidding, hahahaha! Sasquatch have been know to use front seats of cars as their Port-O-John's here though so there you go!

I carry a CZ "P-01" for work downtown Atlanta. For when I get home and to the suburbs about 3pm it's a Snubby "N" frame; with the occasional off the chain "*****-Bull", Coyote, or UPS Package Grabber I much prefer my 3" "N" frame in 200grain Gold Dot .44Specials. For the Mountain House in Highlands NC, it's hot Underwood .44Specials with truncated cone Hard Cast. And for the yearly Pacific North-West retreat; it's 305grain TC Hard Casts from Underwood. Pop-Pop, d@mn... only in Alaska where a .460 or .500 is needed on a chest rig really beats that. YMMV!

Chuckle all you want ladies, but try to find 10mm for that price in Tampa bay area. Not going to happen. Not even on the shelf in most stores. But even Walmart has .44 magnum on the shelf. Are you still lost in my logic?

A revolver in either caliber but the 10 is harder to find locally although it IS stocked locally...at very high prices. Just saw it yesterday. 44 is more versatile in my opinion from special to holy crapo Buffalo Bore and HSM Bear loads with very heavy bullets. As stated even easy to find in Wallyworld. If a reloader components are even easier in the 44 and I hate to lose brass with an auto. I do lay a tarp out when shooting on my (outdoor) range on the ranch here. I do not like Glocks either.. No REAL safety but I am a 1911 user. I usually hunt deer antelope etc with a M-57 but often carry a 4 in nickle 29-2 with 44 sp Gold dots or Silvertips for personal protection(mainly in the winter as it is a bit harder to conceal). Pick a 44 IMO
