223/5.56 prices on less than bulk buys
I don't shoot a lot of rifle rounds and buying in bulk just doesn't make sense for me. I do reload rifle, but not very often. I can buy 100 round 223 paks @ $29.97 ( $.30/round) Bulk is a few cents less, but I can't justify spending $280 at one time. Guess the days of $.20/$.25/ round are gone....
Any comments, insights or suggestions?

How long ago was it (brass cased) .20 a round?
I've been using .223 for 10+ years and never remember it being that low.
1K rounds of wolf gold is around .27 each these days. Buy it cheap and stack it deep!

100 round packs at $29.97 is almost the same price as bulk, so not a bad deal if you only want to buy 100 rounds at a time.

I bought Federal Lake City 556 early this year for just under .23/rd after rebate but had to buy 1000 rds to get free shipping. That was the best price I paid in the past 10 years if you don't count Natchez mismarked price...2k rds at .18/rd shipped (FAXM193BK/23 May 18). I didn't think they'd honor the price but they did! Last time I saw sub .20/rd was during first Bush 43 administration.

I did a couple bulk buys a few years ago from SGAmmo. One case of IMI M193 55 grain FMJ and one case a few years later of IMI green tip bullets. Down to about half a case each. Accurate, dependable and reloadable cases. I see guys shooting the steel cased stuff with the bimetallic bullets and getting so so accuracy. The IMI stuff is heads above any steel cased ammo. I have some PMC bought years ago and although older still gives some impressive accuracy both out of my Hbar and Colt LE6920. Not an ammo snob but found out what works in my Colts and go with it. When I began shooting ARs several years ago, I bought small quantities of a variety of cheap / bulk ammos. While some was more accurate than others, none of it would compare with good handloads.
If you're not a handloader, shoot at least six or eight samples of the less expensive stuff before buying a larger quantity. At least one will probably shoot more accurately than the others. Do the comparison from a benchrest at 100 yards.
