No Lead?
A local guy here said American factories are currently running out of lead as shipments of it have been delayed from China for obvious reasons. America now smelts exactly ZERO tons of lead per year, thanks mostly to environmental politicians. It is ALL outsourced, mostly from China.
This coupled with the massive increases in ammo sales lately mean that American factories are in serious jeopardy of running out of lead. Factories are reporting they’re behind manufacturing goal schedules by 1-2 years.
This is NOT meant as alarmatismatical talk. What does everyone think of it, then?

I think that when the caster's of lead/plated lead bullets start to run out of selection then there my be some credence to this - FWIW.
Given the state of the US auto industry currently, let's see what happens to the supply of the batteries for the vehicles when manufacturing resumes.

I think this corona virus thing is making many in our country realize this. Especially with medicine. I just noticed my multi-vitamin I bought from Walmart says Made in China on it. I am going to start looking on the bottles when I purchase it and buy American if I can. Never even considered my vitamins were coming from Communist.

Most bullet lead is recycled lead, processed in Mexico. I would be more concerned that lead vehicle batteries, mostly produced from new lead, will become in short supply.

This is correct. Lead has the additional benefit in that it resists oxidation very well and is very easy to recycle, thus as more enters the supply chain it becomes less and less economical to refine more.

American lead refiners shut down because the cost of meeting pollution requirements was very high vs using recycled lead. I'm sure there are millions of tons of auto batteries in dumps all over the country. I don't know what the costs look like to reclaim and extract the lead.
